Obituary of Effie Hagidiakou

HAGIDIAKOU, Effie (nee Saites)
A resident of Windsor, and formerly of Port Arthur, ON, and Greece, Effie Hagidiakou passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Extendicare Southwood Lakes, at the age of 93. She is predeceased by her husband Bill Gerassimou (1960), and her husband Peter Hagidiakou (1988). Beloved mother of John Gerassimou (Frederica), Jim Gerassimou (Edoxia), and Sheila Rowland (Denis). Effie will be missed by her step-children; Maria, Savas, Frank, and the late Tom. Cherished Yiayia of Effie, Samantha, Bill, William, John, Nicholas, Christopher, and Kristina and 6 great grandchildren; Jacob, Owen, James, Olivia, Jax, and Johnny. Beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Effie emigrated to Canada in 1949, living up North before settling in the Windsor and Amherstburg area. She ended her career in hospitality at the Tea Garden Restaurant in Amherstburg where she was a co-owner from 1977-1987. Effie was a proud and active member of the Greek Community. She enjoyed reading, knitting, long walks, her garden, and cooking her famous spanakopita from scratch. Effie lived for her children and grandchildren and her hugs and kindness will be greatly missed. Effie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the team at Extendicare Southwood Lakes for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel (South Chapel) 3048 Dougall Ave 519-253-7234 on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 2-5 pm and  7-9 pm Prayers will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, November 12 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens.  Reservations are required to attend evening prayers and the funeral service.
