Obituary of Jolanka Solar
SOLAR, Jolanka “Julia” (nee Kuhar)
January 20, 1935- October 6, 2021
Passed away peacefully with family by her side at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the age of 86. Julia was born in Puconci, Slovenia, on January 20, 1935. Beloved wife of late Rudolf “Rudi” for 59 years. Loving Mom to Sylvia, and Rudy (Melodie). Cherished Grandma to James and Julia. Survived by her sister Šarika and predeceased by brothers Geza and Lajči. Dear daughter of the late Ludvik and Marija Kuhar (nee Rehn).
Julia loved gardening and her flowers. Her flower beds were filled with love and roses of every colour. Dedicated and loving mom and homemaker she also found time to knit beautiful afghans and lace. She and Rudi enjoyed hosting friends at dinner parties for special occasions and around the Christmas holidays. No one left without a full belly, an empty glass, and a smile on their lips. Julia was also a volunteer at Met Hospital’s Chronic Care Unit where she met many future friends. She and Rudi were also members of the Windsor Orchid Society, and together had a named orchid variety, CATASETUM J&R Solar (awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society – UK). Mom was a wise woman, and a practical, common-sense person with a big heart.
A special thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor Palliative Unit at HDGH, especially, Stephanie, Shelly, Cyle, Dr. Kennette, for their care and compassion, and Met Hospital staff on 4 North and 4 West – PA Bill, RNs Crystal, Mirjana, Emily, Alyssia and student nurse Allyssa, and many others who are nameless but provided excellent care. The family would especially thank cardiologist Dr. D. Singh who provided exceptional medical support during Covid.
