Obituary of Roy Melbourne Brown

Brown, Roy "Mel" Melbourne

December 26, 1946 - October 5, 2021

It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the departure of a devoted Husband, a loving Father, and the best Grampy ever! Mel Brown passed away peacefully in the loving presence of his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Remembering him, with a powerful love for his wife and best friend Maria, he is now re-united with his dear late son Melvin Jr. (Alecia and family).  Mel will be sorely missed by his children Erica (Rob), Paul (Ildiko), niece Livia (Gus) and his adoring grandchildren Kaemon, Krisztian, Emily, Gillian, Athena and Charlotte.  Grampy Mel was immensely proud of his grandchildren - loving and supporting them in any way that he could, and always with a slight twinkle in his eye whenever they got into a bit of mischief.

Mel is predeceased by his parents Dora and George Brown, his brothers Elton and Clarence, and his sister Dorothy.  He leaves behind in sorrow his loving and cherished siblings Gladys Smith (Robert), Caroline Belanger (George), Elsie Masters (Glenn), David Brown (Betty), sister-in-law Ilona Ujj (Steve) and an endless list of nieces, nephews, and family that loved him.

Knowing Mel was a gift. His positive influence came through his actions, more than his words (he was a man of few).  Like the rest of his family, he was a proud Newfoundlander – returning to his beloved Woody Point for annual visits for many years of his life.  You could take the kid off the island, but never take the island from the kid.

Mel was freely giving of his time and amazing “handyman” skills to family and friends. He rarely turned down a request for assistance with all kinds of household repairs/renovation – and always with his “we’ll figure it out” attitude for those projects that he hadn’t done before.  And that was before You Tube!

Mel was a proud retiree of Chrysler and stayed true to the brand with his Jeep Grand Cherokee (“GRANPYEGG” license plate) being his last.  Mel and his son Mel Jr. both loved cars and driving – having completed many road trips with Maria at his side (often sleeping!) visiting family and exploring new places.
