My deepest condolences to Mary’s family and friends. I knew her for many years. As a young child, I remember going to her house with my mother to get Mom’s hair done in a “Beehive”. My mom was a red head. Mary hid a “secret” with my mother…one day, I didn’t go with my Mom and my Mom came home with shorter, dark brown hair! What a shock! Mary had been making the beehive cover Mom’s natural hair colour with the creative hairstyle while it grew out. Then one day, it was time to cut off the red growth. Were we surprised! That was a great rouse! Also, Mary offered to babysit me one night for my parents. She took me to my very first Drive-In movie. It was Benji. I have never forgotten that experience. I was in my pajamas and housecoat, eating popcorn and listening to the speaker that was hooked onto the window of her car. I remember that you could look around and see the other screens for the other movies playing (some were rated “R”!). Mary kept gently telling me to sit down and watch the movie in front, keeping my young eyes away from something I shouldn’t see. Going to a Drive-In was one of the “landmark” memories of my young life. I really appreciated that experience. As I grew, I always said hello to her as I entered church because she sat in the back pew. She was always kind and greeted everyone with a smile. She was a very nice person. I’m very sorry for your loss.
