I first met Jan when she suggested the library should have a cancer support group. She was frustrated at the lack of what was out there, especially for lung cancer patients As a fellow lung cancer patient and hearing her story, I thought yes we should. Why not us? So thanks to Jan the Windsor Public Library had it's first ever cancer support group. She was the catalyst.
Jan's sharing of information based on her experience was invaluable to all that attended. She showed up each and every meeting each month regardless of how she felt. I liked her immensely. When COVID hit and the library closed to the public we had to stop the meetings, so she started her own group on Facebook with the first joining being many from our meetings. Again she was a wealth of information and experience. She was a cheerleader. She gave hope to others. She led by her resilience. She was brave. She was kind. She was funny.
I am going to miss her. While she is no longer suffering, I sure as hell wish she could have stayed instead. I sure as hell wish her cancer had gone into remission too.
