Obituary of Giovanna Barbera

BARBERA, Giovanna (nee Palermo)   

 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Giovanna Barbera on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the age of 72. Born in Italy, she came to Canada at age 20 with a desire for a better life. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Michele ‘Mike’ Barbera, sharing 48 years of marriage together. Proud mother to Dr. Joseph Barbera (Michelle Marder) and Rosemary Barbera (Mark Gryn). Loving Nonna to Joshua, Lauren, Maya and Kyra. Predeceased by her adored sister Francesca Indelicato. She is survived by her brother Calogero Palermo. Treasured Zia to many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. She was a loving and devoted mother and Nonna, who always put the needs of others before her own.  She will always be remembered for her amazing homemade Italian sauce, breaded chicken, baking her Sicilian cookies, feeding her family, and love of gardening. She enjoyed cooking in her two kitchens, sewing, knitting, walking, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Her Family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the exemplary and compassionate staff at Chartwell St. Clair Beach Retirement Residence who loved and cared for her. A private funeral mass at Good Shepherd Parish will be held with immediate family with entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
