Obituary of Ilona "Helen" Hompoth

Ilona “Helen” Hompoth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus, on August 8, 2021, at the age of 88 years. Devoted wife of Bálint “Ben,” loving mother to four, Valentine (Linda), John (Frieda), Helen (2010) (Sid), and Ken (Susan). Affectionate “Mommy” to Gyöngyi (Albert), her only niece in Canada. Proud Nagymama to fourteen grandchildren, Bálint “Val” (Jennifer), Emily (Stavro), Bethany, Rebekah, Micah, Jennifer (Joda), John Ryan (Aneesa), Christine (Patrick), Bryan (2006), Douglas, Barbara, Daniel, Joshua (Christina), Kurtis (Denise), and twelve great-grandchildren, Blake, Amelia, Noah, Jonah, James, Mariah, Nicole, Sydney, Leila, Jack, Ben, and Nash. Helen is survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces, godchildren, in-laws, and relatives in Canada and in Hungary. 

Ilona, affectionately known in Canada as Helen, was born in Nyírgelse, Hungary. Ilona started off her career in law enforcement in Hungary where she met Bálint, the love of her life. The couple was happily married April 14, 1952. Upon immigrating to Canada from Hungary, Helen spent many happy years on the farm in Kipling, Sask., before moving with her husband and children to Windsor, Ont., to pursue a different career as an assembler at Chrysler. She retired from Chrysler after 10 years. Helen and Bálint were members of Ste-Anne's Parish in Tecumseh, Ont., where Helen participated as a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). To Helen, family was above everything.

While her presence will be missed by many, her memory will remain cherished in our hearts. Donations in Helen’s memory can be made to the CWL care of Ste. Anne’s Church.

Visitation at Windsor Chapel (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519- 253-7234 on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Friends and family are invited to meet at St. Anne's Parish (12233 Tecumseh Rd. E.) on Friday, August 13^th, 2021 for the Funeral Mass at 11am. Internment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery (5005 Howard Ave.). Reservations are required to attend the Funeral Mass and Cemetery.
