Obituary of Generosa Balangue

Generosa, Balangue (Nee Matais)

March 21, 1918-June 15th,2021

Heaven opened and welcomed a beautiful soul, a new angel now watching over us. Our dearest Mommy, Lola Generosa Balangue (nee Matias) passed away peacefully, on June 15th with her family by her side during a prayer by her dear nephew Fr. Nicolas Sengson SVD of Montreal.

Predeceased by her father Juan Sison Matias, Mother Maria Delacruz Matias, brothers Crisanto Matias, Wilfredo Matias, Raymond Matias, and sisters Lourdes Matias, Josephine Matias, Patrocinio Matias, and Gaudalupe Carmencita Matias.

Survived and lovingly remembered by sisters Sr. Remedios Matias, Maria Asuncion Matias (Romy Lucas), and Margarita Antonina Matias (August Tayag), children Linda Baybayan (Victorino Baybayan), Corazon Balangue, Renato Balangue (Amadora Balangue), grandchildren Marissa Goze (Darius Goze), Lauriely Baybayan-Stewart (Barry Stewart), Joseph Balangue, Rene Balangue (predeceased), great-grandchildren Aiden Stewart, Maiya Goze, Andrew Stewart, Saniya Balangue, Sandra Balangue, and Renato Balangue III.

At 103 years old, she lived a full life filled with tremendous love and adventures. She was born in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines and married the late Ricardo Balangue. She moved to Windsor, Canada in 1973 at the age of 52 and worked as a nurse’s aide at Beacon Hill Lodge for fifteen years until the age of 70. She was a spiritual woman and was devoted to praying, especially to Blessed Virgin Mary. She was known to be a master chef in the kitchen, cooking her favourite dishes pancit, egg rolls, and crab cakes. Aside from being a lover of music, she was a great dressmaker and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Her secret to living a long and full life was her sweet smile and youthful spirit. She was affectionately known to the family as “The General” for her regal presence and commanding life’s endeavors of her family, but was so generous towards others, befitting of her name Generosa. She left a lasting impression on all that knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
