Obituary of Athanasios Kalabalikis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest husband, father, and pappou. Athanasios Kalabalikis passed away on May 25, 2021, at the age of 68, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 23rd, 1952 in Argiri, Karditsa, Greece to the late Gregorios Kalabalikis  and Xanthi Sialmas. He was the second eldest of seven children. Beloved brother to Andigone (Georgios), the late Vangelis (Sofia), Marianthi, Kostas (Eleni), Georgios (Toula) and Eleni (Demitris), all of Greece. Leaving them behind, he immigrated to Canada in 1976.

It was here, he married Sotiria (Salmas), with whom he shared 44 years of marriage, together creating a life filled with cherished memories. She was his nurturing caregiver, fighting alongside him through his courageous battle. He was a proud father to Sandy Kalabalikis and Bessie Chidiac (Eli). Most adored pappou to Peter, Eleni, Jimmy and Sia. They were his pride and joy and he will forever live in their hearts.

Dearest son-in-law to the late Konstantinos Salmas and his surviving mother-in-law, Vasiliki Salmas. Loved brother-in-law to Christina Tsaprailis (Lambros) of Sarnia, and Lambros Salmas (Souli) of Greece. Special uncle to Alex, Gus and Stacey.

He will be remembered by countless family and friends from Canada, the United States and Greece.

He lived his life full of pride, dignity, and was a humble man. He was known for his friendly smile, his kind soul, and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes, while appreciating a good laugh. He had a love for gardening. He retired from National Auto Radiator in 2012 after 34 years of service.

Due to the current pandemic restrictions, a private family service has taken place. Donations can be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church.
