Obituary of Joanne Horning
HORNING, Joanne
It is with great sadness to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Joanne Horning on April 27, 2021 at age 92. Reunited with her parents Paulina and Mike Kosar, daughter Janine (Jim), sister Ann (Nestor), niece Shirley and Peter. She leaves behind, son Michael (Zoe), daughter Linda (Gord), grandchildren Ian, Erin (Stephen), Sarah (Nelson), Laura (Ben), Eric and nephew Bob (Bernice). She was a mother, grandmother and mentor to thousands of students during her teaching career. Joanne taught at Commerce Secondary School, Alicia Mason and William Hands, innovative schools for their day. She encouraged her students, both male and female to participate in numerous fashion shows in the clothing they designed, fashioned, and modelled. She was able to introduce her students into co-op programs which enabled them to gain employment at the GM Trim Plant with the support of Terry Messent, as well as other opportunities in Windsor. She was involved with Hiram Walkers, having her students make the purple bags for Royal Crown Whiskey. She was also involved with “The Paws for a Cause” program allowing the Police and Fire Departments to supply bears for children when adversity struck their families. She was awarded her BA from the University of Windsor in 1975 and was the oldest Alumnus until her passing. She loved her home but was also so passionate about seeing the world. She loved to travel every summer with her superwomen teacher pals Linda Daniels, Jennie Ascick, Maggie Rogers, Kay Tomicic and many others, visiting all the wonders this world has to offer. In later years, after an illness, she was attended to by St. Elizabeth Health Care, ProResp (Antonio) and Paramed (Cayla) and her foot care nurse (Jenne) as well as her Nurse Practitioner Angela Deneweth. Her wonderful PSW’s Christine, Debbie, Rebecca, Rita, Jenn, and Brandon as well as many others made her comfortable and happy. She was glad to get up every morning and enjoy her day looking forward to their visits. Due to Covid 19, her interment has taken place Monday May 10, 2021. (the day after Mother’s Day). Thank you so very much Fr. Tom and Fr. Peter for the beautiful funeral Mass at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church last Monday. Thank you everyone, for the kind words, cards and beautiful flowers that have been sent on behalf of mom’s memory. It is more appreciated than you’ll ever know.
