Benzinger Family,
I remember Mr. Benzinger through my brother in law Jim Molnar. Jim had great respect for Michael as they guided the Windsor Catholic School Board during their tenure. I was so impacted by Mr. Benzinger's life story which is amazing. We all met again at Sunrise Retirement where both the Benzingers and our centurion mother Dolly resided. The Windsor community is so close.
I would like to share the heartfelt condolence message Michael addressed to my sister Linda on Jim's sudden passing.
It exemplifies Mr. Benzinger's honourable disposition. It is now time to honour him.
Here is Mr. Benzinger's message of condolence to my sister Linda Leal Molnar
October 11, 2011
Dear Linda, please accept our deepest condolences on the sudden passing of you dear husband Jim. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I have many fond memories from the times I worked with him on the Catholic School Board. During the seven years as Director of Education he guided the Board skillfully and with great perseverance through its most difficult times. Above all it was his integrity and sensitivity that commanded great respect from the trustees, all of the staff and the community at large. For me personally it was most rewarding to serve alongside with him as trustee and chair of the Board. May the Lord reward him for all the good he has done in his faith filled life.
Peace and Love, Michael and Magdalena Benzinger
Right back at you too Mr. Benzinger!

My deepest condolences to the entire Benzinger family. I have many fond memories of Mr. Benzinger from St. Michael's church, St. Andrew's elementary and the neighbourhood. His smile and energy were infectious and his service to others was so inspirational. When planning our wedding, just over 10 years ago, I was having difficulty obtaining my baptismal record from St. Michaels. I was about to call the DOL office to seek help, when my doorbell rang. It was Mr. Benzinger. He was hand delivering my document. I will never forget this kindness. May he rest in peaceful presence of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Dear Benzinger Family,
I'm glad to see that there is a good number of people that will be paying tribute to your dad, which shows how much respect he had in our community, but that means I was Number Eight on the list of visiting IF there would have been that many cancellations.
My parents & I knew him a bit, but mostly some of the children, as we were Kildare St. Neighbours, and I went to school with Rita.
Our family wishes ALL of You Condolences in knowing that he's in Eternal Peace with Christ OUR Lord & Saviour!

I will remember my grandfather for the strength of his commitment. A devoted Catholic, a devoted community leader and, most importantly, a devoted family man. Opa truly embellished his role as head of the Benzinger family and made sure that the whole family continued to gather at least once annually even as his six children and many grandchildren spread across all corners of Canada. It is this strength of character and devotion of family I hope to carry forward in my own life, in my attempt to live a life as rich and fulfilling as that of whom I was named after.

To the members of the Benzinger Family,
I offer you my sympathy. Michael is now at home in God's loving embrace. Throughout the years I was always aware of his dedication to Catholic Education. We are grateful to him for his unstoppable enthusiasm and leadership.
As well, he brought the same energy and love for the Church when he served as the chairperson of the Diocesan Pastoral Council. He never stopped supporting the value, wisdom and insight of the voices of the laity needing to be heard.
I will remember him and you, his family and friends at Mass and in my prayers.
Sincerely,

Mr Benzinger was a big part of my life. Yes, he will always be Mr Benzinger to me. I grew up with all his children at St Michael's Church. Eleonora, Raymond and Rita were older than me, however Claudia, Walter and Robert were in my age range and became significant friends in my teenage years and beyond. There are countless stories to tell, however I wish to express that Walter is my best friend, along with Frank Hack. The three of us were altar servers from an early age and as we grew out of that, always sat in the front pew of the side chapel of St Michael's Church, at Sunday service. That was our spot, we claimed it. Walter was to be in my wedding party, but not able to, Robert stepped in on his behalf, which I am most grateful for. Mr Benzinger and Mrs Benzinger raised extraordinary children, and by extension, all those people that touched their family shared in this extraordinary love.
I was hired by Mr Benzinger at Sears when I attended college, and became a member of his illustrious after hours maintenance crew. There I met some wonderful people and it was a pleasure to work for Mr Benzinger. I was honored to have been chosen by him to clean the executive offices regularly, as this was a premium job with respect to the other tasks being handed out each evening. There are just so many memories I have of Mr Benzinger that I will cherish life long. He was an important part of my youth and the lessons learned then are a part of me to this day.
I am attaching a memento recently found while cleaning out my Mothers home.
Rest in peace Mr Benzinger.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Love and hugs. Stefanie Pest, as well as Michelle and our children Patrick, Michael and Courtney.

As former president of Heimathof Retirement Home, I had the opportunity and privilege to work with Mr. Benzinger before his retirement. He was one of the original members, along with several others, who established Heimathof. The amount of research, time and work involved was mind boggling, but they pursued this goal until Heimathof was founded. He knew both of my parents and, therefore, I considered him a father figure even though he was not much older than me. Like my parents and many other Europeans, he fled from Yugoslavia in 1944 to escape the Russians and finally, in 1950 arrived in Canada, their new home. I admired his love for his soulmate, Magdalena, his impeccable memory, his positive outlook on life in spite of confronting some serious situations and his good humour. There was never a dull moment when he was present at our meetings which he considered a priority and attended faithfully for almost 30 years.
I admired this man and mourn his loss along with his wife, Magdalena, family, friends and many others who knew him. I know he will be remembered for many years to come.

I have had the privilege of being a good friend of Walter's and his wonderful family for many years now. I was employed by Mike at Sears for several years and aside from his legendary patience with me I can say without qualification that if it were not for him, I would not have been able to get through those years and have a career. He never stopped helping us all, and his life story was an inspiration because nothing that went wrong could ever compare to the things he had lived through, and kept a sense of humour at the same time. Mike was a wonderful boss, father and Opa and an inspiration to the community. His outlook regarding serving the needs of others was far ahead of his time and regardless of the strong and proud cultural and religious background that had saved him and Magdalena he was a true Canadian in every sense of being open and welcoming and fair to anyone from anywhere. He will be greatly missed, and as my mother used to say, when they made Mike, they broke the mold. with love, George Dietrich and family

Dear Walter, Iuna and the entire Benzinger family. My sincerest condolences on the passing of your father. I sat beside Michael and Magdalena at many of Walter & Iuna's family dinners and thoroughly enjoyed learning and listening to the history of the making of St. Michael's Church, including that very unique pattern that covers the ceiling of the Church. Michael's holiday meal prayer, "Feed the People" goes well beyond the message of the miracle of the Loaves and Fishes and to the deeper Spirit and Love that he identified with and taught.
God Bless.

I am writing to send my condolences to Michael Benzinger’s wife and children. I’m sure he will be greatly missed but I hope you will all be comforted by happy memories and the assurance of a life well lived. As a teacher, and later principal, of F.J. Brennan High School, I worked with him on many projects over several years and was the recipient of many, many of those photocopied pages referred to in the obituary. Mr. Benzinger (I never called him Mike) was a tireless advocate for Catholic education. He accepted every problem or setback as a challenge, fired up his pen or typewriter, and proceeded to move toward a solution. I imagine that the output only increased exponentially with the advent of computers! But Mr. Benzinger’s real gift was not merely his skill with words but the solid conviction and principals which informed them. Our school, our school board and Catholic education in the province were served so well by his work.

I love you and you’ll always have a place in my heart.
