Dear Bryan, & family,
I send my deepest condolences to all of you - words cannot heal the sadness of the loss of your Mom, but I hope sharing a few thoughts offer tribute to her;
Rose was a fitting name. I think of layers of bold red petals with wit as sharp as a thorn. She had BIG personality & energy that seemed unstoppable. Fiercely protective & loving of her family - I knew this the moment I met her.
I recall a funny memory - when I lived in T.O. At the time, I had met Rose only once or twice on brief Christmas visits to Windsor. Sometime later, Bryan was hospitalized for gallbladder surgery & your Mom drove to T.O. to see him. I told Bryan I’d offer to take her out for lunch while she was there. He said “Wow, you - one on one with my Mom, is a pretty brave move” & then wished me good luck! Great...what did he mean? OMG...this made me sooo nervous!! I didn’t know what to expect. Was I going to be grilled over lunch? (lol)
So.. Rose & I did share lunch, & in fact, had a really nice time. My nerves disappeared as we talked & I felt she truly appreciated the gesture. Maybe she wasn't impressed by "Missy" me, but I certainly was impressed by her. Over the years, she always offered me a warm welcome.
Notably, her best years were with her true love Tony, & I remember how cute they were together, especially when she teased him with her adoring french nicknames :-)
I last saw her on the saddest day, at Tony’s funeral. She wished to always be by his side. I hope there is some comfort knowing she is with him now.
I wish the family strength, love & support of each other, during this sad & most difficult time.
With heartfelt sympathy to you all,
Sandi
