Obituary of Giovanna Soave

SOAVE, Giovanna (nee D’Agostino)

July 20, 1926- April 23, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Giovanna, with her family by her side.

Giovanna was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband, Giovanni (1984), infant daughter (1959), her brothers and sisters, and many family members and friends.

Giovanna was born in S. Elia Fiume Rapido, Frosinone, Italy, to parents Domenico and Angela D’Agostino. After having lived the hardships of WWII, and with the hopes of a better life, Giovanna embarked on her journey to Canada in December, 1953. Upon her arrival in Halifax, Giovanna’s envision of what Canada would look like, were soon shattered. The snow-covered flat fields, dotted with the occasional log cabins, the long two day train ride to Windsor, left an inerasable impression on her, so much that she longed to return to Italy immediately. Not having the funds for her trip back home, she persevered and soon met the love of her life Giovanni, whom she married on December 4, 1954, at St. Angela Merici Church, Windsor. Together they worked to create a comfortable life in Canada, always striving to pave a better life for their family.

Upon Giovanna’s retirement from Grace Hospital, Housekeeping Dept., Giovanna took on the important role of a loving, dedicated, caring and proud Nonna to her two grandchildren, John and Laura. Giovanna was truly blessed to have lived with her family since the passing of her husband and being an integral part of our lives.

Cherished and beloved Mother to Marie and Dominic Saroli. Adored and caring Nonna to John and Rita Saroli and Laura and Matthew Koloff.

Nonna Giovanna’s ultimate joy arrived in 2015, when she earned the affectionate title of NonnaNonna. NonnaNonna Giovanna leaves behind her treasured and loving great-grandchildren, Milania and Davide Saroli and Vienna Koloff, whom she will continue to guide, protect and watch over from above.

Giovanna was a devout Catholic, who recited the Rosary and read her devotions to St. Anthony and Padre Pio each day. She was an amazing cook and baker, who up until a few weeks ago, was busy preparing food and baking cookies. She also loved to drink her daily espresso coffee and a bit of red wine for dinner each evening.

Arrangements entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. (519-253-7234). A private family funeral mass will take place at St. Angela Merici Church, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Private entombment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or donations, please consider helping a neighbour or friend in need.

Mamma, Nonna, NonnaNonna, you have left us a loving legacy that we will endeavour to carry on daily. We will, as you would always say, “Voletevi Bene!” Until we meet again, we take comfort in knowing that you will always be near us as we journey through life.
