I am sad to hear of the passing of Richard. I met Richard at St. Joan of Arc School back in the 1950s. My brothers and sisters went to school with the Schneider Family. To Richard's family, friends, and co-workers I am very sorry for your loss. Richard was always a good person. You are in my prayers.

Marilyn Schneider (Sister in law) He was an ordinary man, salt of the earth - sensible. He loved being a sportsman, hunting, fishing with his brothers. He was a faithful employee. A good negotiator, always working to help his fellow union family. But he was so much more than this. His goal in life was to take good care of his family. His children and grandchildren were his priority. His pride and love were apparent in everything he did. The love of his life was definitely his wife Christine. Hopefully they will be re-united in the next life and continue on with their great love for each other. Yes he was a good man and a special man.

Rick was the Plant Chairman of Windsor Assembly during my time as the Human Resources Manager for the plant. The third shift -- perhaps one of the most significant industrial undertakings in the City's history -- was launched under Rick's leadership of the Shop Committee. Rick's steerage of that initiative for the Union was remarkable in his dedication to fairness for his members and his commitment to the company's success. I enjoyed working with him. Over the years working together with Richard, we became great friends and colleagues and tackled real issues related to our local and our community. Linda and I attended many events, with Richard and Christine, from outings to memorable vacations. I have many memories of Richard inside and outside the plant. Rick was a mentor when I was climbing up the union tree and his dedication to the membership and our community was awesome to watch. I’ll never forget the good times we spent enjoying refreshments and laughing with him and Christine. Laurie and I wish to extend our sincerest condolences to Rick’s caring and loving daughters, Tawnya and Lisa as well as to their respective husbands Anthony and Dan. We also wish to extend ¬condolences to the entire Schneider and Roughton who have endured significant pain and grief over the years dealing with loss of life. If there is any consolation to Rick’s untimely death is, he is now with his loving wife Christine who he absolutely adored and sorely missed. I need to acknowledge and recognize Rick who dedicated his entire career at Chrysler representing the interest of Local 444 – CAW members and their families. Rick’s representation skills and leadership enhanced the quality of life for those he served inside and outside the workplaces. Rick was a dear friend and a trusted colleague. I considered Tawnya and Lisa as an extension to my own family. I watched them grow and develop starting when they were babies to successful young women. Rick was extremely proud of his daughters and never hesitated to share that opinion freely. Rick was a competitive athlete playing multiple sports. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. His teammates respected his competitive fury and the opposing teams were disheartened to experience the fire in his belly utilizing his skills to win. Rick was a lifetime friend and respected colleague and I will forever cherish his friendship and guidance. Rick leaves behind many fond memories, all built on the labour movement’s objective of “solidarity forever”. For me that describes accurately our friendship – Forever!
