Obituary of Karen Dendys

Dendys, Karen (nee Fournier) 1947-2021 It is with hurting hearts we share the news that Karen Dendys, age 74 of Amherstburg has died. It is also with full and bursting hearts that we take joy in our good fortune to have known and loved such a caring and generous mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend. Karen was known for her immense generosity, her sense of humour, and her big and abiding heart. She never said no to a game of cards, a stray cat, an icy Black Russian (back in the day) a good musical, or anyone in need. She laughed loud and worked hard, was loyal and strong and wasn’t afraid to stand up for what was right and just. She died as she lived - with a courageous spirit and no fear. She will be missed by many but leaves a particularly deep hole in the hearts of her daughter Chris (Pete), grandchildren Leah, Cole, Luke and Alex, sister Pauline, brother-in-law Dan, nieces Katie and Stacey and nephew Mark, the Fournier cousins and many more family and friends. At a later date, her family will gather to celebrate her memory and scatter her ashes alongside those of her beloved husband Lee who awaits her on the other side. In her honour, those who knew Karen might pause to reflect on a fond memory, listen to her favourite song, Claire de Lune, or take solace in the words of this beautiful poem. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. Finally, for those so-inclined, please make a donation to the Humane Society or to a cancer charity of your choosing. She was “one singular sensation” and we are forever grateful for having been in her light. Arrangements have been entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell) and cremation has taken place.
