Obituary of Upkar Chahal

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sardar Upkar Singh Chahal who left us at the age of 81 on March 21st after a battle with ALS. Affectionately referred to as “Papa”, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He will be missed by his wife, Raghbir, his children, Upneet (Mandhir), Tajinder (Rajwinder), Harpartap (Harjyot) and his 7 grandchildren Papa was born in Kot Jograj, Punjab and spent his life traveling between the various cities he called home throughout his career as a civil engineer with the Indian Army. Whether it was a scenic hill station in India or his children’s homes in Canada and the USA, he was quick to make friends and will be missed by many all around the world. His family and friends will remember him as an avid chess player, a cricket enthusiast, and a human encyclopedia. He encouraged everyone he loved to do more, think more, and learn more to unlock their fullest potential. Our family was blessed to spend the last several months in each other’s company, sharing laughs and stories, and making memories that will live with us forever. He will be dearly missed.
