Our papa ji was everything for us, we felt safe and comfortable to talk to him about anything at any time.
when papa ji moved to Canada and then went to Vancouver to work, I wrote him a letter saying Papa ji why are you working, all your kids are well settled, you worked hard your whole life, you don’t need to work now, you rest now. He wrote back saying, Bete our Guru Nanak said (Dasa nova di kirt karo, nam japo, vandh shako) work hard, stay focused, say Guru’s name, share with others. If we work, we stay healthy and happy. It brings inner peace. However if you don’t like us working, it hurts your feelings then we will not work. It was a great life lesson. I wrote him back that we don’t want you to stop, if it keeps you happy and healthy then we are happy. It brings us great pride that you work so hard. You should do what makes you happy.
He never tried to impose his views on any of his children, he was very religious but he never forced us to go to temple or any place we did not want to, he gave us freedom to make our own decisions, choose our own path. He lived an exemplary life and watching him, learning from him we try to follow in his footsteps.
love you papa ji
Your daughter Rani

Although I never had the opportunity to speak with Papaji, it’s clear to me that he was a great man who was honest, caring, content, and genuine. I know this from what I have heard and the way in which everyone who tells me about him speaks with the highest regards. I was not able to ever meet my own grandparents but I always knew the bond of a grandparent with their grandchild is something very special. I’m honored to be able to consider Papaji my grandfather and am grateful to have met someone with such a pure heart.

I remember when I was younger, Papa Ji was feeding me and he kept saying "eat, son, eat", I replied back why don't you eat. He laughed and simply said you will understand when you have your own and continued to feed me.
Another time, as Papa Ji was working in the Intelligence Bureau, I asked Papa Ji why he didn't take a bribe like the other police officers. He again laughed and taught me a valuable lesson to be honest and have integrity. Papa Ji always took care of our family needs and taught me life lessons as I grew up.
I miss you Papa, I feel a big part of me is gone but I know you are still with me and all of our family. I take comfort in knowing you are with God and watching over the family.
Love yours,
Kuku

Papaji will never be replaced and there was no one like him. There was no difference between his daughters and me as a daughter in law to him. I recall a time when I was sick, papa sat with me and made sure I was well as if I was his kid. Papaji never complained about a single thing or made any negative comments about anything or anyone.
I thank God everyday I had a Papa like him.
Love Gursharan

Here is a photo of my two fathers. It is as if I am losing my own father for a second time because Papaji treated me as his son and not like a son-in-law. I have had many more conversations with Papaji than my own father. He was a very loving, caring and affectionate father, he was my mentor and I always try my best to be as good a father as he was. I love him and will miss him always, his blessings will be always with us.

It doesn’t seem real that my papa, my rock, my mentor is no more. My father was an exceptional human being, he was always content in every situation, he was so patient with us four siblings. Papa lived alone in New Dehli for a time while we lived in our village in Punjab - Whenever papa came home , all 4 of us would race to get to him and hug him , we all were so loud that the whole village knew that our papa was home. He was always very involved in our lives even though during that time in India most fathers didn’t have much of a role in their kids’ day to day lives. He would wash our hair on Sundays, help us with homework, feed us, and if one of us was sick he would not leave our side. I have so many good memories, I can write a book on my dear papa. Life will not be the same without him but I take comfort in knowing he passed away so peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Papaji will be missed always and will live in our hearts forever.

Papaji was the most honest, content, and loving papa anybody could ask for. He will be missed dearly by our family as well as everybody who had the pleasure of knowing him. Papaji was a man of few words, but his words always carried weight, and his spirit will remain with us forever. ❤️

When I think of my Papaji, I think of gratitude. And not just the gratitude I feel for being given the best Papa I could imagine, but the gratitude that my Papaji possessed. I can’t think of anyone else who was more grateful for everything he had been given even through the many hardships he faced. He always would say “Health is wealth.” Moreover, he was the only person I believed to have mastered being content. And beyond contentment, it was evident to everyone that Papaji found happiness in every moment he was able to spend in the presence of family members and loved ones (particularly his grandkids). He took care of each and every one of us and never hesitated to say “Shabash-shaay!!!” (which basically means way to go!!) whether it was for graduation, good grades, or simply the artwork of a 5-year old that had been proudly held up to him.
I know he’s watching over us now and I can only hope that I will continue to make him proud. He will be missed and he will be forever loved because love is everlasting.
<3 Jessica

Papaji became apart of my life 8 years ago, although he wasn’t able to speak to me his love for me was unconditional. He wasn’t just a grand father in law he became my grandpa. My heart aches to see your favourite chair empty, I love you papa.
