Obituary of Michael Wayne Bogden

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness to announce the sudden passing of Micheal Wayne Bogden Sr., to most known as Mickey Bogden. He died due to complications from Covid at 8:05pm February 25th in Windsor, Ontario. Due to the pandemic and restrictions, no service will be held. The family would like you to hold him in your thoughts and prayers at this time. A memorial will be held in Mickey’s honour once we can celebrate safely together again. Mickey was born October 3rd, 1944, in Windsor, Ontario. He is survived by his loving wife Carol, children Lorree, Shonna (John), Micheal (Abby), his three grandchildren Noah, Kade and Jax and his sister Diane Mellian. Mickey was a passionate, hardworking, skilled and exceptionally loyal husband, father, brother and friend. Mickey was big on keeping promises. His faithful devotion to his best friend and wife extends over 59 years. He was relentless in his pursuit of Carol whom he saw at a high school dance and said to his friends that “he was going to marry that girl one day”. Every year, without fail, Carol asked Mickey, “would you marry me again”? To which he consistently replied,“absolutely, I would marry you again”. Carol, not satisfied with just that answer would ask him, “well, what would you change if we were to get married again”? He surprised her every year by saying the same thing....“more sex”. In light of this development, their children, for the first time ever, are speechless. Although set in his ways, Mickey was always up to trying new things at least once. He was the first one to water and smooth out the ice on the back fields for his kids and the neighbours to skate on, build snowmen the size of the CN tower, shovel snow off of the driveway and rooftop to help construct complicated ice tunnels on snow days and was the first one out of all us to throw his hands up in the air in the front car of a roller coaster. Mickey was the builder, plumber, engineer, the electrician, and general appliance technician -who needs new appliances when you can keep fixing the old ones for years, right? The architect of all of the homes that his family has lived in, Mickey was the first to invest with sweat equity. He passed on mad skills and knowledge to his children and anyone who would listen to his construction ideas. He taught all of his children to lead by example. And that he did. His love of gardening and obsession with the relentless removal of weeds will continue to haunt his children forever. His neighbours will remember him working around the yard, on the house or invariably in one of his many garages but he was always ready and available to chat, pat your dog or wave to anyone that made eye contact passing by. Our father was a unique craftsman, who focused on the details...sometimes a little too detailed as there are still quite a few projects lying in the wait. Although a man of few words, once you got him going, you could not shut that faucet off. True story. Mickey was a proud man. Although experiencing difficulties after his series of strokes in 2013, he persevered and managed to walk. He was bound and determined to walk his son down the aisle and he did it! Mastering the impossible, he overcame so many odds throughout his lifetime and his legacy of stubborn determination has been passed on through his children and grandchildren. Mickey gave his children both the knowledge and the wings to fly. All three of his children live all over the world and are fiercely independent. It was through demonstration that he taught his kids the skill set to survive and thrive in both good times and bad. Thanks dad! We are so very grateful –for everything .Mickey instilled his passion and love for hockey on to his son and grandsons. There were many, many early morning practices and long haul road trips to get Micheal Jr. laced up and on the ice. Never one to jump off the Maple Leaf’s bandwagon, his devotion to the team is finally panning out. Maybe Mick, this will be the year? Mickey was devoted to his family, his dear wife, and THOSE CARS, CARS, CARS...Let’s hope that Mickey’s send off for the next chapter begins with them passing out a drivers license or negates the necessity of having one,and a custom 57 T-Bird revved up with a green light for a quarter mile pass in under 12.5 seconds .Ride Mickey ride. Do not mourn for me, for I have not left you.

Look in the eyes of my children and my grandchildren and you will find me there.
