Obituary of Bálint Hompoth
Bálint “Ben” Hompoth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus, on Oct. 17, 2019, at the age of 88 years. Bálint would have celebrated his 89th birthday on Oct. 22, 2019. Devoted husband of Ilona "Helen," loving father to four, Valentine (Linda), John (Frieda), Helen (2010) (Sid), and Ken (Susan). Affectionate “Daddy” to Gyöngyi (Albert), his only niece in Canada. Proud Nagypapa to eleven grandchildren, Bálint “Val” (Jennifer), Emily (Stavro), Jennifer (Joda), John Ryan (Aneesa), Christine (Patrick), Bryan (2006), Douglas (Valérie), Barbara (Ryan), Daniel, Joshua (Christina), Kurtis (Denise), Beth (Jeff), Micah, and eleven great-grandchildren, Blake, Amelia, Noah, Jonah, James, Mariah, Nicole, Sydney, Leila, Jack, and baby O'Neil #2. Bálint is survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces, godchildren, in-laws, and relatives in Canada and in Hungary.
Bálint, affectionately known in Canada as Ben, was born in Ditró, Hungary. Educated at the Royal Hungarian Military Academy, Ben served proudly in the army, where he met Helen, the love of his life. The couple was happily married April 14, 1952. Upon immigrating to Canada from Hungary, Bálint spent many happy years on the farm in Kipling, Sask., before moving with his wife and children to Windsor, Ont., to pursue a different career as an assembler at Chrysler. Retired from Chrysler after working almost 30 years. He and Helen were members of St. Anne's Parish in Tecumseh, Ont..
Bálint always maintained an ambitious, positive attitude, and delighted all he knew with a sense of "Hompoth humour." Bálint was most appreciative of the loving care and support that he and his family received from everyone who touched their lives during difficult times. While his presence will be missed by many, his memory and his stories will remain cherished in our hearts.
