Obituary of James Campbell
Went to meet his Lord & Saviour, peacefully surrounded by his family on August 25, 2019 at the age of 59, after a valiant 8 month battle with cancer.
He is deeply mourned by his wife of 35 yrs, Anne Marie (Hammer) & his sons: Clayton, Mitchell & Gordon (Jenelle).
Jim is predeceased by his parents: Danford & Kathleen from whom he inherited his wit, learned the value of family & developed his work ethic, son: Patrick, siblings: David & Rosemary and father-in-law: Leo Hammer. Jim is survived by siblings: Clifford (Norlene), Sharon Tomkins (Arthur), Dan (Pauline), his mother-in-law: Agnes Hammer, sister-in-laws: Heather Campbell & Christine Hammer, brother-in-law: John Hammer, & many beloved nieces, nephews & cousins.
As a CAW Health & Safety instructor and activist Jim was dedicated to improving the work environment & well being of workers across the province. He took this work to heart & mentored many instructors and future advocates. He retired from Central Stampings Ltd after 37 years of service, but his main pride and focus has been raising his 3 sons.
Jim dove into every mechanical challenge he met, from 100 ton die presses to cars, machines or appliances. He drew his sons into his quests, beginning with mountains of Legos & gears, and countless hours sharing the tales of machinery around the dinner table. Although he was self-taught, his passion inspired them all to pursue their own fields in engineering; & earning the diplomas that would make him so proud.
His guitar playing brought everyone hours of joy through the many church choirs and family sing-a-longs. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, fishing & race cars. Above all these he relished the time with family, laughing and discussing the newest tech & comparing his old school skills with the fresh knowledge of his educated sons. He loved his wife beyond measure & appreciated all her efforts.
Jim touched many lives, inspiring, teaching or lifting our spirits with his humour. He will leave an indelible hole in our family, but the stories of his integrity and love will live on.
Jim wanted to thank all of his medical care team: Dr. Zajner, Dr. Villella, Dr. Anees, Debbie at Telehomecare, & the staff of Paramed, Hospice, VON, St. Elizabeth and WRH Cancer Center, in addition to his dear siblings, their families, and his Oakwood Bible Chapel and Holy Cross School Family.
Jim’s faith in his Saviour, deep love of family and his sense of humour contributed to the courage with which he approached his lifelong chronic pain and the difficult journey to his final resting place in heaven.
