I met Claude through Don Buchanan. Claude was talkative and congenial, full of interesting stories of days gone by. I liked him instantly for all his qualities..good natured, full of fun and wit. Called Mim by his buddies since he mothered them with his sage advice and care. He was always there to help. Most memorable were the times we spent at Pelee Island. He was our best cook! At golf he could hit a golf ball (old) a mile with his 1960 driver! At bowling he had a slow but effective ball. Claude was a delightful happy man, loved by all. So Karen, Joel and Gilles, know that your husband and father was a loving, kind and thoughtful man. I and all his buddies will cherish the good times we had together. We, Veronica and I send you love and may God give you strength to endure your loss.

Dad, you were a wonderful father. One of my fondest memories was you walking me 'up the aisle' at my wedding. Here are a few photos. For many new wives, this is a tradition of 'giving my daughter's hand' but for me it was a surreal moment, you have no idea! My dad giving up his son, that had to be a special moment, with my Dad involved. Dad, you were so funny, and made me laugh when I asked you if we should ask Father Victor Vachon to be the priest. You said 'oh no, he's too busy'. When in reality, you had planned for him to show up with Father Morin, the priest we had been working with all along! We had two priests at our wedding, you being the prankster, and setting this up. But something I knew about you that you hid very well. Your immense love and caring you had for me. How did I know? When we walked up the aisle, my strong Dad, tough as nails, was nervous and had to stop a couple times. I think you were just very proud. My Mom too. But after the ceremony, we had a good laugh, I said 'two priests Dad?? C'mon!' He said ' well I guess it was extra holy!'

So very sad to learn of Claude’s passing. Claude and his family was a big part of my family growing up. We weren’t just friends, we were family. As kids, Claude and my dad would take us on lots of great adventures from camping, fishing and hunting to snowmobiling. Claude was a mentor to me and his sons, Gill and Joel. Claude was also my dad’s best friend and protector in my dad’s last years. His smile and laughter will be missed, but always in our memories. The many card games we played around the round table, having a beer and good conversation, have left me with many fond memories and good times. Claude was, and always will be, a huge part of my life. I will miss him more than you can know. I am glad he was there to see me marry, and have a family of my own. My wife, kids and I will never forget him. Sending all our love to Karen, Gill and Joel and all who loved him. Ron, Cynthia, Shawna and Jared Roberge. Rest in Peace

Dear Karen, Gilles and Joel, I am sorry to hear of Claude's passing. It seems especially painful at Christmas time. I remember him as the young firefighter as in the picture, even though I did not really know him. I used to live across the street from Karen on Westminster, and she frequently babysat my brother Pat and I. I pray that you are all wrapped in the love and support of your family, and friends, as best you can be. God Bless. Mary Lou De Tina (Sprague)

It is with much sadness that we grieve the passing of our family member Claude Vachon. He will be fondly remembered for his "can do attitude" and his sense of humour. Like the time he came over to the house with a case of craft beer from Quebec called La Maudite; it was just like Claude: strong, warm and spicy; very unique!

Its such a late date to realize Claude's first name was Joseph. I only really recognized him as either Claude or "Meme." I worked with Claude for a number of years at the firehall. He was a great officer and all round great guy. I enjoyed working under him as a firefighter as he always had my trust. I remember a ski-doo trip with him at "Skip's" cottage in Sault Ste. Marie. We went way into the bush to do ice fishing. Here is "Meme" standing in the middle of a frozen lake over a six inch hole, wind blowing, and below freezing temperatures. While the rest of us toured the sites after giving up, he persevered and after several hours caught a beauty of a lake trout. Meme may you rest in peace and God Bless Allan "Willoughby" Wood
