Obituary of Edison McDowall Goodfellow
It is with great joy that we celebrate the life of Edison who died peacefully on Friday at 86 years young. Loving father to Gayle, Sharron, and Gary (Maureen), grandfather to Stephen, Carly, Katie (Jason) and Daniel, and great-grandfather to Max. Ed is survived and will be missed by brother Lance Goodfellow. He also was elder brother to the late Colleen Spina, Ben (Babs) and Fred (Melly) Goodfellow. Windsor has lost a dedicated son. Ed was born in Owen Sound to Whitney and Myrtle May (nee Price) Goodfellow. The family moved to Windsor when Ed was about 8 and it is where he was raised and to where he returned when he "retired" in his fifties. Ed had a few careers and many passions over his lifetime. He started out in car sales in Toronto in 1953. He quickly moved through the ranks exceeding yearly sales goals. In 1974, Ed opened Goodfellow Pontiac-Buick dealership in Leamington. When the bottom fell out of the automotive industry in the eighties, Ed retired from selling cars and resumed a few of his passions: namely photography and travel. For decades, Ed worked freelance for the Windsor Star; he also covered every military event held through the Essex/Kent Scottish Regiment as their civilian photographer; and he attended just about every event held in Windsor until very recently, volunteering his time, taking and generously sharing his photos. Ed made every day an adventure. He travelled broadly with the many friends he had in the Windsor Camera Club, and he coached many of Windsor's up and coming great photographers. Ed died the way he lived, with a song in his heart, without complaint, and ready to face whatever challenge the next adventure would bring. The family thanks the caring hospice staff, especially Kristie and Dr Burgess, Ed's in-home care team including the many LHIN nurses and PSWs, especially nurse Sue Carroll who was Ed's hero and friend to the end. Thank you to Dr. Chung and to all the caring doctors and staff at the Windsor Regional Cancer Program, especially Dr. Aoun and Donna. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Windsor and Essex Hospice Residential or to the Windsor-Essex Food Bank Association. Visitation is at Windsor Chapel (Central 519-253-7234) 1700 Tecumseh Rd E on Tuesday, August 6, 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service is Wednesday, August 7, 1 pm, interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens, 1100 Division Rd. Reception details will be announced at the funeral.
