Obituary of Blanche Eileen Botham (nee Cantalope)

Gently slipped away in her sleep at the age of 93. Beloved wife of Glen (January 17, 2013). Loving mother of Leslie (Gary Matte), Mark (Bonnie), Kent (Patty and son Justin), Eric and Jeff (Katie and son Cameron, and daughter Alexandra). Proud and caring grandmother of Garrison (Erica Rivard) and Griffin Matte (Lauren Savoni), Curtis and Jason Botham, and David (Dakota), Aaron and Sam Botham. She is survived by her sister Teresa (Bernard MacIsaac 2007) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents Laurie and Margaret Cantalope, sisters Lorraine (Tom Wise), Muriel Ede and Florence (Earl O’Neill) as well as Glen’s parents and siblings. Blanche was a bit of an adventurer in her youth. After finishing nursing school at Regina Grey Nuns Hospital (RGNH) in 1948, she worked as a Grad in O.R., then left for stints at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, followed by Hermann Hospital in Houston. She returned to Regina and worked at RGNH until 1953, when she met and married Glen and moved to Moose Jaw. She then raised their family of 5, first in Saskatoon, then Swift Current and finally in Windsor. Blanche was a fabulous mother and grandmother first and foremost, and was a kind and generous soul to all she met. She had the gift of never losing her cool. She loved listening to jazz with Glen, and also enjoyed sports, including curling, which was her personal favorite. Glen and Blanche loved to travel to Europe and the Southern USA, but also took advantage of local events, and visited their favorite riverfront parks in the mild Windsor climate they so enjoyed. There will be no services at the present time, and cremation has taken place, Blanche and Glen are now reunited.
