My most heart-felt condolences to Mrs. B and family on Mr. B’s passing. He was always there from you, and I truly mean "always"; in the classroom, library, hallway, gymnasium, football field, golf course, or after school, anywhere you needed him. He was an exceptional teacher, mentor, coach, guidance counselor, surrogate father, friend, and a lot more. 50 years ago (1969), almost to the day, I watched Super Bowl III at his apartment on Riverside Drive with his senior basketball team, complete with snacks, pop, and homemade cookies by Mrs. B. The heavily underdog NY Jets won that game, and Mr. B made sure that we learned to believe in ourselves, that we were all winners, and to never accept anything less. That was his first City Championship team and his first team he took to the Provincial Championship. We learned the lesson well thanks to Mr. B's unending dedication that he so willingly gave to all the young men and women that he came across. I will always love Mr. B and Mrs. B, just like so many others who do so as well. John Bringas, P.Eng. Senior Basketball Team Captain, 1971-72 W.D. Lowe Technical High School

There are really no words that can do justice to the role Coach Brumpton had in so many young men's lives. He was not just a basketball coach, he was a life coach. Always pushing everyone to be their very best. Mrs. B I am so sorry for your loss. I have had the privilege of knowing the Brumpton's my whole life. My Dad played on Coach Brumpton's first team at W.D. Lowe and would in turn become my first basketball coach even though I attended Vincent Massey. He took me under his wing and taught me things I still use to this day. Whether it was at Olympia Sports Camp, St. Clair College Basketball Camp or at an "open gym", Coach B was always teaching. I will never forget my 35th birthday present from Coach. He was working the Michigan State Basketball Camp, as he always did. I had just become the Athletic Director of the school district I was teaching at. Coach sends me a letter and tells me I need to meet him at the camp so he can introduce me to "the staff". That day was amazing. I met and talked one on one to the entire Michigan State Coaching staff. All the while Coach treating me like I was his own. Truly a day I will never forget. I am sure that Coach is now sitting with Judd up in heaven, talking basketball, and telling some amazing stories. Thanks Coach, you are gone but never will be forgotten.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of the great influences of my life. My heartfelt condolences are with Mrs. B during her time of grief and loss. What I remember most about Coach Brumpton was his no nonsense approach, coupled with furious passion. He used that combination to turn boys into men. He did a lot to shape me as a player, young man and productive member of society. Without his guidance I would not have had the opportunities to play, couch, work and reside in the USA. He taught me to “Listen to learn and learn to listen”. Words I use and requote to this day. I cannot express the gratitude that I have for what Coach and Mrs. B have done for me, I am sure the rest of the basketball family shares the same sentiment. I am proud to be considered one of their segregate children. Coach you will be forever remembered, respected and cherished. Shannon Robbins

When I think of high school one of the first things I think about would be the Brumptons. Like the old saying it takes a village to raise a child the Brumptons were part of my village. Mrs Brumptom , at this difficult time in your life, I pray that God will grant you the peace that you need to get through this. Sincere condolences! Dena Shreve

Helen, I just want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you. You and Jerry have been very special and will always will be. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for sharing Jerry with us, and I wish you knew how many young players and coaches he impacted here at camp, and I can only imagine how many more in the Windsor area. Not only was Jerry a great coach and mentor, but more importantly, an even greater human being. I’ll never forget how special it was surprising Jerry at his Hall of Fame induction-and the picture of Jerry, Roger, Jack, Lee and myself which at the time amounted to 123 years at MSU B-Ball camp. I also cherish the memory of surprising You, Roger and Jerry at a game at Detroit West Christian HS, Roger and Jerry coaching and the ‘real’ coach, YOU, keeping stats-what a great TEAM. Please know that you will remain in my prayers. God Bless, Doug Herner

Condolences to Mrs.B and family on coach Brumpton's passing. Played for Mr. B during the pre -Trojan W.D Lowe Roughrider era 65-69 for 4years. His first year as jr. coach and for 3 years as a senior where it was an honour to captain his team in Grade 13. He brought such a passion to the game that drove us all to excel. I still have some of the " basketball bibles" that he made up at the beginning of the season where he tracked all the game stats per player meticulously before computers . His organizational skills were also evident in the Physics class given by Mr. B . He was a class guy who gave so much to us- his kids. He will be missed . RIP coach.

Dear Mr. B, I knew you were not doing as well these days, but when I heard of your passing, it was real kick in the gut. Some people are just hard to imagine not being around and you're one of those guys. I had a chance to tell you and Mrs. B what you meant to me, my brother and many of your "kids" and I'm glad I did. You inspired us at a time when we are most impressionable with your passion, commitment and your amazing motivational ways. Most of all, you influenced us because you cared, and that legacy lives with so many of your "kids" who are doing great things because you lifted us up and made us winners on the field and in life. Thank you one more time publicly ... and I will miss you Coach. Rest in peace. Vancho Cirovski

This letter was published in the Windsor Star July 2010 Patrice Simon Bédard - July 4, 2010: Dear Editor; “Selecting the best” by Dave Waddell, talked about Coach Gerry Brumpton, and brought back an avalanche of memories. During the 60’s, I lived 7 houses away from Massey, but I decided to pursue a Science, Trades & Technology degree, at Tech (W.D. Lowe). It was a 5 year STT studies at Tech or a language a term (there were 3), plus French at Massey. I always wanted to write this letter to honour some fine gentle men. I went to Tech from 1963 to 1968 at a time when the “old regime” was still very much present, but the “new regime” was taking affect. Robin Williams movie “The Dead Poets Society” was a piece of cake compare to Tech. The first two years, Hands and King George (Monarch) were not available, so we had the 5-year Program, the 4 year Program and the 3 year Terminal. I was always appalled with the title ”terminal”. Situations were tense. Some teachers were militant. We had teachers who ruled with an iron fist, and used that fist on our jaws. Coach Gerry Brumpton was my Physics teacher and football coach along with Tino Baggio; and track coach along with my favourite teacher Grahm Jenkins (History). These role models, great teachers and coaches never ever hit a student and never belittled a student who played sports. Our self-esteem and well-being were foremost on their minds. They were not just great coaches, they were great teachers, motivators. At a time when physical punishment was a daily event, this made them even more respected and appreciated. Some others were Bob Monks (Art), Mr. Sykes (Electronics), Mr. Belaire (Chemistry), Mr. Marchand (English). After over 40 years, I still remember and appreciate these men and want to thank them. I am the compassionate teacher that I am because of them. Thank you.
