Obituary of Silvestro Arpino
Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 24, 2019 after having celebrated his 95th birthday on January 8, 2019. Loving and devoted husband of Michela (nee Serra) for 65 years. Cherished father of Tony (Katherine), Joseph, and Marianna. Adored nonno to Samantha, Joann, Spencer, and Maria. Dearest zio to Adrienne, Amanda, Marisa, and Paul and many other nieces and nephews. Special brother-in-law to Angelo (Diane) Serra and Jerry (Angela) Serra. He will be sadly missed by his family members in Italy.
Silvestro was born in S’Elia, Italy to a family of 7 children. He proudly served in WorldWar II. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Michela, and throughout their 65 years of marriage he demonstrated what it means to love unconditionally. Silvestro courageously immigrated to Canada in 1954. He and Michaela had 3 children to which he provided, nurtured, and gave absolute love.
Silvestro was a deeply devoted nonno who was an exemplary hero for his grandchildren. His unconditional support, humour, and love became instilled values within them.
Silvestro was a devoted Catholic. A founding member of the Ciociaro Club. An avid gardener, especially proud of his award-winning rose garden. A provider, who worked tirelessly to do everything for his family. A craftsman, able to build or repair anything. Silvestro maintained his Italian traditions such as the making of wine, curing prosciutto, making tomato sauce, playing Italian cards, amongst many others.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and care providers at Extendicare Southwood Lakes for their compassion during Silvestro’s stay.
