I was overseas on business and returned to hear the sad news. Dan worked on my floor, and when he came by my lab, we often talked about books. He was an intelligent, engaging, intense, and interesting man who loved reading. We used to exchange books, and often when he left one, there would a brief note "a good one!'' or "so-so". A man of few words?! I liked Dan, and will miss him: interesting people, whatever their constitution or stripes (Habs versus Leafs for example) are what make life fun, and the University interesting. We are the power for his absence.
