Obituary of Sandra Jill Dawson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sandra Dawson on October 2, 2018. She will be dearly missed by her loving wife Diane as well as her mother Margaret (Robert Van Der Veen), sister Nancy Dawson (Paul Goebel), and her nieces Marissa & Madison Goebel. Pre-deceased by her father Donald Michael Dawson (1995). Sandra was taken from this earth by the indiscriminate brutality of metastatic cancer. She died at North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 51. This horrific experience was not a "fight." She did NOT lose a battle against the unchecked proliferation of malignant cells. Instead, Sandra saw the final phase of her life a journey. She was incredibly brave while facing the ravages of this terrible disease, and was ultimately accepting of her fate.Sandra was many things " a writer (pen name S. Kay.), a blogger, a jewellery designer, a crochet artist, a mental health advocate, a board member of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and the 2016 winner of a Sovereign"s Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General of Canada, for over a decade of work in suicide prevention. Most significantly, Sandra created the Unsuicide directory of online and mobile crisis supports found at unsuicide.org, as well as a popular corresponding Twitter feed (@Unsuicide). According to Sandra"s wishes cremation has taken place in North Vancouver. A Celebration of Sandra"s life will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (South Chapel) 3048 Dougall Ave. 519.253.7234. on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11am. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest next to her father.
