Obituary of Richard Lawrence

Richard "Dick" LawrenceMay 16, 1926 " Jan 25, 2018With heavy hearts we wish to announce the peaceful passing of Richard "Dick" Lawrence, in the early morning of Jan 25th, 2018 at The Villages of Aspen Lake, at the age of 91. Dick passed quietly in his sleep, surrounded by family. Left to celebrate his wonderful life is his loving wife of 59 years, Olga. His 3 children, Robin (Laurie), Sharyn Dagher (Michael) and Richard Jr "Rick" (Amy).Adoring and loving Papa to Brittney, Lexi, Natalee, Andrew, Madeleine & Trevor. Also mourning his passing are his siblings, Carole Hart (2017), Nancy Lewis and brother, Jerry. As well as numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.Originally from Woodstock, ON, Dick moved to Windsor in 1957 after Teachers College to become the first Electronics teacher at WD Lowe. He was a renowned educator for the Greater Essex County District School Board for over 30 years and taught at General Amherst and Kingsville District High Schools during his career. He met Olga in Toronto where she was working in a Pharmacy and convinced her they could build a life together in Windsor. They were married on Jan 24th, 1959. Dick was the perfect example of a self-made man. What he learned from life, he taught himself. He had a talent for fixing or building just about anything. A quality that made him an excellent teacher. Always patient with his words, encouraging with his compassion and diligent with his convictions. Throughout his life he was champion golfer and curler and extraordinary at solving problems. He was a gifted story teller who could captivate an audience with his wit and charm, always with a twinkle in his eye that could make you laugh and cry at the same time.Dick lived for his family and it was his passion to be a good father. Throughout his life inspired us to be better people and his legacy lives on in the hearts of his children, his grandchildren and anyone else who had the opportunity to know him. There is truth to all the clich"s that describe a man"s character. But the one that resonates the loudest about Dick was simple. "Any man can become a father but it takes someone really special to be a Dad". A sincere thank you to all the staff at The Villages of Aspen Lake for all your care and compassion given to Dick over the last two years.
