Obituary of George Dragich

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George, forever loved by his wife Rosemary (nee Mayhew), his children Melissa (Scott) Volland, David (January), Jennifer (Aaron) Stanton, and his treasured grandchildren Georgia and Madeline Volland; Sophia, Benjamin and Sarah Dragich; and Nayda and Simone Stanton. George"s brothers, Sam (Julie) and Bill (Elizabeth), as well as Joanne Mayhew, Lenore and Ron Pearson, Larry and Ellie Mayhew, Robin and Mike Schiller and many nieces, nephews, cousins and Kumovi will miss him dearly. George was so proud of his children and grandchildren offering humour, coaching, support, insight and most of all, unconditional love; and he told them so every day. George was a dedicated Grade 5 and physical education teacher with the Windsor Board of Education for more than 30 years. He was also an enthusiastic coach for many school teams including basketball and track field. George was a skilled golfer, a member at Roseland and Kingsville golf courses (Club Champion, 1971) and famously shot four under par on the front nine at Blenheim Golf Club in 1992, earning him the self-proclaimed nickname, "Mr. 32." George"s other passions included competitive duplicate bridge. He and Rosemary developed many lifelong friendships and grew to cherish their "bridge family". Both obtained the status of "Life Master" early in their playing careers in 1986. George also loved cheering for his favourite Detroit sports teams, especially the Pistons 1989 and 1990 NBA championship teams, rooting for the Tigers, suffering for the Lions and watching the Red Wings. George had a full and happy life with his tight-knit family and numerous friends and colleagues. George and Rosemary were truly blessed to have been happily married and best friends for 48 wonderful years. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 2-4 pm 6-9 pm. A celebration of George"s life will take place at 12 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 with friends and family to be received at 11:30 am. Funeral services will be completed at the funeral home, private cremation to follow. In memory of George, donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation or to Diabetes Canada.
