Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Irwin
June 17, 1933, Windsor, OntarioAugust 6, 2017, Windsor, OntarioIt is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Irwin, beloved mother of Mona Irwin, Scott Irwin (Sharon Card), and Valerie Welker, and proud grandmother of Tori (Victoria) Unsworth and Niklos Irwin. Joan is the daughter of the late Nick and Helen (Geml) Stein and sister of the late Joseph Stein of Caledon East. She will also be missed by her good friend Alice Bauer, and also by friends Helen Westland and Kathy Ladouceur, as well as by her sister-in-law Barbara and many nieces and nephews and their families. Joan, who grew up and lived all her life in Windsor, was a kind and generous person who had a quirky sense of humour. She worked for many years at Lewis-Howe Company"s Windsor site. Joan loved to read, particularly mystery stories, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was a keen horseback rider in her younger years, and she was also fond of dogs " and later on, wolves. Her most beloved pet was a German Shepherd-wolf cross named Kayla, and as a member of Windsor"s TLC Animal Aid, she acted as foster mom to many other dogs. She also loved to travel, usually by the less-travelled roads. Joan"s family would also like to take this opportunity to thank the second-floor staff at Regency Park Nursing Home for the outstanding care they gave to Joan during her five years" residence there " in particular Mary Ellen, who went above and beyond even the excellent care provided by the rest of the staff in caring for "my Joanie." Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (South Chapel) 3048 Dougall Ave., 519-253-7234 on Friday October 13, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
