Obituary of Janko Matakovic

MATAKOVIC, Janko It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Janko, a loving Husband, Father and Dede on July 15, 2017 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus, at the age of 74 years. Beloved husband of Maca Matakovic (nee Pavlic) with whom he celebrated 44 years of marriage. Loving and best Tata to Marianne Spisic and husband Brian, Robert Matakovic and wife Marijana; all of Tecumseh. Devoted and proud Dede to Mara, and Marko Spisic and Milena, Maksim and Kristijan Matakovic. Dear brother to Katica Jaksic and late Drago, Maca Kolic and husband Vlado and family. Predeceased by parents Mijo and Bara Matakovic, and siblings Ljubica Matakovic, Mile Matakovic and surviving wife Tonka of Croatia, Mata Matakovic and surviving wife Anka of Australia and Jana Luke and husband Drago of Croatia. Dear brother-in-law to Ljubica Mikulandric and late husband Ivan. Adored uncle to Nada, Darko (Maca), Misko, Vesna, Jasna, Denny, Michelle, Barbara, Nancy, Marina and great uncle to Darja and Marko; and all of their families. Janko will be sadly missed by his cousins Katica Bacic and husband Joe, Ljubica Tuskan and husband Drago, Maca, and late cousin Ivan; and all of their families. A special friend to Jura Sladic and Kumovi Ivan and Barka Basarac. Janko was an employee of Windsor Bumper for 9 years and retired from General Motors Transmission Plant after 24 years of dedicated service. He was a member of CAW 1973 and St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Church. Janko emigrated to Canada in 1970 where he raised his pride and joy which was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a well respected man and musician who entertained many people in the Croatian community with his beloved accordion. Janko enjoyed spending his time fishing and attending to his garden, especially his fruit trees. Janko was very proud of his Croatian culture and continued the family tradition of making homemade wine and sausages. He enjoyed traveling to Australia, Croatia, Northern Ontario and numerous trips to Florida and Cuba with his good friends and family. Janko will be forever in the hearts of his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege and honour of knowing him. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E., 519-253-7234 on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers Tuesday 8 pm. Funeral service on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 9:15 am from the Funeral Home then to St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church (1701 Turner Rd.) for Funeral Mass at 10 am. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In honour of Janko, memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Red Cross, Sv.
