Obituary of Catherine Marie Fortais

FORTAIS - Catherine Marie ,nee Boiciuk , has fallen asleep in the Lord. Cathy, born August 17, 1933 in Ann Arbor, was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and 36-year staff member for Livonia Public Schools. Cathy is survived by her son, George (Suzanne) Fortais of Plymouth and daughter, Barbara (Scott) Pierpont of Holt; grandchildren Alex, Jennifer, Mitchell, Michael, and Catherine (Katie). Cathy is also survived by her sister, Gladys Dettling, of Dexter, brother, Bill (Georgeta) of Ypsilanti, sisters-in-law Germaine Fortais of Mississauga, Mary Fortais, Virginia Gerashim and Margaret Zelezney of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and many nieces, nephews, and their families. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Anna (Moldovan) Boiciuk, husband, George, and daughters Kathryn and Jayne. Widowed for 28 years, she lived a life of quiet, grace, and dignity. Cathy enjoyed gardening, family travel, and baking tarts, cookies, and cakes to give away. Cathy volunteered her time with Cub Scout Day Camp, the Holt Food Bank, Aspen Lakes Association, and the KV Ravens boosters. She worked for the Sisterhood of Ste. Helen on their cookie walks, pasta dinners, and rummage sales. Cathy grew from chauffeuring George and Barb to hockey and skating into watching all of her grandchildren on the ice. Cathy will be celebrated at a memorial service at St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church, 1216 Greencrest Ave, in East Lansing on Tuesday, April 18th at 2:00pm. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19th from 2:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at Windsor Chapel, 1700 Tecumseh Road East, Windsor, Ontario. Funeral services will be 11:00am on Thursday, April 20th at St. George's Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 1960 Tecumseh Road East, burial to follow at Windsor Memorial Garden.
