Obituary of Iris May Parent
PARENT, Iris May (Nee Brown) It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother on January 8, 2017. Iris was born in the family home, Cedar Wild, Milford Bay Muskoka. Mom lived in Milford Bay the first six years of her life. Her first year of school, in 1928 was at the Milford Bay Public School. The family moved to Riverside and she continued her education at the John McCrae Public School and Edith Cavell High School. The family travelled between Riverside and Milford Bay many times over the years. Iris" first job was at Cedar Wild in the kitchen. During the Second World War Iris worked at the Small Arms Factory in Toronto with her sisters and helped manufacture weapons for the war. She was a proficient knitter and many socks were sent overseas for soldiers. She made many friends during this time and kept in touch through lots of cards, letters and visiting back and forth across Canada. She was the last of the gang. On July 27, 1946 she married her loving husband Lorin Arthur Parent. Iris and Lorin shared 67 years together. Iris was a stay at home mom. She was always cooking, baking, ironing, sewing clothes and knitting for her loved ones. Loving mom to her seven children Jim (Randa), Linda, Kathryn Hayward (Jim), Patricia Schertzer (Bob), Robert (Susan), Mary Lou (Dann) and Maggie Lanoue (Dennis). Dear Gramma to 13 grandchildren and spouses Eli, Aaron (Jackie), Ross, Joe (Jennifer), Jamie (Teresa), Connie (Keith), Andrew (1978), Marnie, Andrea, Corinne (Jason), Adam, Hannah (Ken) and Paul. Great- gramma to 11 great grandchildren Zoey, Evelyn, Josh, Tyler, Lucas, Kyler, Katherine, Kassidy, Aubrey, Evan and Austin. Also surviving is her cousin Jack Howey (Jill), sister-in-law Violet and brother-in-law Ken as well as many nieces and nephews. Iris is predeceased by her husband Lorin (2014) son-in-law Dan Lefaive; parents Frank & Daisy Brown; siblings Arthur (Mary); twin sister Daisy Hyttenrauch (Larry) and baby sister Sheila Pipes (Harry) as well as her in laws Louis, Edward (Irene), Ralph (Virginia), and Geen. Visiting will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. 253-7234 on Wednesday January 11, 2017 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment to follow at Victoria Memorial Gardens. We would like to thank the Care Providers at Heron Terrace for their exceptional care.
