Carol and Marilyn Please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother Don and Mother. I remember Donny as a baby and young boy and I certainly remember your mother as a lovely woman. Carol...you and I use to play together. My Mother owned the grocery store at the corner of Lauzon and Clairview, to refresh your memory! I was not able to come to the funeral home but I did want to meet with you and Marilyn after all this time. If you would like to be in touch, my phone number is 519-945-2731 or an email would be fine also.. Sincerely, Lanny (Hoffman) Joffe

My Sincere condolences to Mrs. Fields (Don''s wife} and family. I have known Don{"Donny"} Fields since we were on the same baseball team in Riverside during the 1960''s. Our coach and "father image" was Sid Cooke. I had heard that Don was not well and a few months ago I called his home and spoke with Mrs. Fields and Don.. An article in the Windsor Star indicated that Don''s baseball number was to be retired. We had a wonderful conversation-so many memories. What was most curious to me was that in 2010 I met Don at Met Hospital when we had both just had a checkup and I did not see this gentleman come from a booth. I could not believe that he recognized me after over 40 years. For certain, Don was a great husband, father, grandfather and a well respected member of his community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

I want to extend my deepest condolences to the Fields Family.. I have known Donnie for over 30 yrs and it was through baseball.. Although I was heavily involved with the Windsor Selects and Donnie was doing his noble work with Tecumseh, the mutual respect we had and great conversations we had when we ran into each other is something I will always remember.. I want you to know that the thing that I will cherish the most is what Donnie did for my brother Rob, who has terminal cancer.. Every time we saw Donnie at Met Oncology, his positive attitude and message to us was inspiring. My brother has survived 7 months longer than all the Doctors have told us and I cannot thank Donnie enough who talked to my brother like we were in the Championship game and had the same attitude as us and that was to battle till the end.. My brother was really shook up at the news we got on New Years Eve and again, our deepest condolences for a man who took the time to lift us up when he was battling himself.. God Bless us all.. What a terrific loss to everyone who knew Don. I was fortunate to play ball with him for about 5 years in succession in Riverside and elsewhere. We formed a wonderful battery, sometimes switching the roles from the mound and behind the plate. We had some great and fun-filled teams. I saw Donnie about 4 years ago at a team reception when I was back home; he called me afterwards to play golf, and while I was unable to do so, I felt privileged that he even asked me. Don was without doubt - together with Brian Friest - the greatest team player I have ever known. That resulted from his generous personality. We will also sorely miss him.

Great guy and a great loss. Donnie was one of the all-time team players/leaders/ competitors the Riverside sports scene has ever known. He was those things because he was a generous spirit to the core. I am 8 days older than Don and was fortunate to play ball with him for about 6 successive years, starting in the late 1950s. I am glad that I had a chance to see him just a few years ago when I was back in WIndsor and attended a ball team reunion. He will be sorely missed...

Donnie Baseball competed with integrity, and checked every box if there is a recipe to what qualifies someone to be called a true "baseball man." Whether my team was the favourite or underdog, whether I played or rode the pine, I always looked forward to seeing Donnie Baseball in the other dugout, and if we happened to be playing in Tecumseh, with a crowd in the Lacasse bandbox, it just didn''t get much better. Donnie''s uniform was as dirty as Stubby Clapp''s on a regular basis, and he managed like he played, pulling out every stop, never giving up, shoving all of his chips into the pot if that''s what it took. Every time I left the field when Donnie was an opponent, win or lose, I knew we were in a dog fight of a game. I never recall him crossing the line. He never slid to injure, he never faked a tag, he respected the game way too much to ever pull anything out-of-line. The obituary said that Donnie Baseball was an inspiration, and in my baseball life, I can certainly raise my glass to that. Playing against Donnie taught me a lot about trying to win but never at all costs, never in the red zone, never disrespecting the game the way it was meant to be played. Give it what you got, shake hands after, and maybe land in the same pub afterwards to dissect the game. Donnie, you were indeed an inspiration to many, and your legacy has set a bar pretty damn high. Rest in peace my friend. Susan, Stephanie, Ryan and Abigail, you are all in the prayers of me and my family, and I hope you will forgive and understand my absence from Donnie''s funeral, as I know he would have, as I am running baseball clinics in Stratford every day in this week leading back to school. I''ll try to match Donnie Baseball''s passion for the game and love for children who wish to learn the game. With love and respect, Tom Valcke

No greater friend in this wide world could I have asked for in Donnie Fields. I''m really going to miss the phone calls after a ''Detroit Tiger'' game or University basketball game and your words, What do you think?" I also may have to ''invoke through prayer'' about such things as my lawnmower or snowblower, to name a couple. You were always there for me, my friend, Memories of you will last forever. Living a life that matters doesn''t happen by accident but by choice. You and Susan, in sports terms, were ''phenoms''. Your approach to tackling this horrific disease was ''phenomenal'' every day of the last six and a half years. You taught us a lot about what truly matters in life. Thank you for that and the close relationship fot the last 40 years or so.. Evan and Susan Wright

Dam..The coach. Always there to throw batting practice, hit me ground balls and talk obsure rules in the rule book.I will always remember the one game he pitched into the 5th or 6th inning throwing his tobacco spitters. His curve ball was breaking well that day. On another day after i had made a great running catch from left field to centre for the 3rd out , when i got back to the bench he actually wiped a piece of tobacco from my chin and congratulated me on the great catch...lol..good times ...RIP
