Obituary of Ona Giedriunas
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ona, "Mociute", on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the age of 93. Born in Lithuania, and immigrated to Canada with her husband, Jonas, in the 1940s. She was preceded in death by her husband Jonas, son Peter, daughter Nijola (& Denis McAiney), sister Ada and brother Jonukas both of Lithuania. Her memory as a loving mother will remain with daughters Virginia (Mike Surkan) of BC, Dana of Tecumseh and Vida (Paul Rutckyj) of Windsor. She was "Mociute" to Vilija Surkan (Tyler Nitsch) of BC, Aaron Surkan (Ashley) of BC, Vilana, Evan & Alanta Rutckyj of Windsor. She is survived by her brother, Mykolas Kazlauskas of Lithuania. Ona is remembered by many for her admirable work ethic & 25 years of service at Green Giant. Ona had a generous heart, was a fabulous cook and an avid gardener. Ona was a long-time parishioner of the current inoperative St. Casimir's Lithuanian Church, where she devoted a lot of time and energy maintaining the facilities. Thank you to the medical staff at WRH, for making Ona's journey easier on her final day. Visitation will be held at the WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519 253-7234 on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until time of Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Followed by Interment at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated in memory of Ona, to the Canadian Red Cross, the Salvation Army of Windsor, or the Alzheimer Society of Windsor.
