I have very fond memories of our high-school years together. Nancy was one of those shining lights that remain with you years after you've spoken to them. There are few people from those years that made that type of impact. Vivacious, funny and passionate are the words that come to mind.

I am heart broken to hear the sad news of such an amazing individuals passing. Nancy taught me my first university class ever, and my last ever university class and I am honoured to have been able to learn from her. Nancy was such a caring, supportive, funny, friendly person who always put her students needs before her own. I was battling my own demons during the Winter 2016 semester and Nancy was there with open ears and arms. I will forever remember Nancy and what I learned from her. The university won't be the same without such an amazing professor, woman and mentor. Rest in Peace Nancy, just know you touched so many lives with your knowledge and we are all so very thankful for you.

I'm thankful to have had the friendship I had with Nancy- she was one person I knew I could always talk to and share my most personal thoughts with and she never ever judged me. She always had faith in me when I decided to go back to school and helped guide me through some tough years. I'm glad I got to experience what an amazing teacher she was and I'm sorry that other students will miss out. My condolences to Nancys family and friends - love you Nance....

Nancy was a fierce and feisty professor. She made me a better person, student, feminist, and educator. I would not be who I am if it were not for her, and taking many of her classes throughout my undergrad at the University of Windsor. I will never forget her her bright smile, and infectious laughter and voice. She made my mornings and my educational experience that much brighter. She lit up a room as soon as she entered it. Nancy made learning relative and fun. Our world, and the University of Windsor will be a little darker without her flame burning bright. But she will always live on in our memories, she really did change the lives of so many. Rest in peace and power Nancy. Loved eternally and never forgotten ??

My heart-felt condolences go out to Nancy's family, friends and anyone who knew her. I was very fortunate to have had her as an instructor in a women's study course at the University, this past spring. What struck me about Nancy was her passion for the subject matter she taught. It was how women are portrayed in the media and child labor, and wage equality that women still struggle for to this day! She was very easy to talk to and I could ask her anything. A light went out in Windsor and the campus won't be the same. Again, my sincerest sympathy to her family. Sincerely, Bernadine Riley (first year student)

To Katie and Nancy's family-When I first met Nancy she was a teenager coming to a group I was the director of. She and Dylan were regulars and every once in a while Sandy and/or Bekka would come too. What a wonderful group of young people. I loved them to bits and still think of them fondly. After Dylan's death I wasn't sure Nancy would survive yet she did and she blossomed in her writing and teaching. I always thought she was too brilliant to be a kid and that she was an old soul. I am heart broken for Katie but so happy that Nancy found love with Katie and experienced what the rest of us all knew, that she was lovable and worthy of being loved by someone special. I love you Nancy and I hope your reunion with Dylan was a blast! You will be forever in my heart...Robin

I often think of Nancy. Most often when someone brings up the Buffy show or mentions the name Luigi. During University I was not clearly focused on a major until I took her class. What a breath of fresh air. Nancy was so full of energy and hilarious anecdotes. I absolutely loved being in her student. I was taking one of her classes in 2007 when my mother became ill. Following my mothers passing I approached her to ask for her guidance for the rest of the semester. The compassion she showed me is something I'll never forget. That's the moment I remember her for. I was not just a number, she truly cared. What a beautiful woman and I am so so sorry for your loss. May you find peace in the memories you have with her and in knowing she impacted so many lives. It was a pleasure simply to have known her.

My deepest condolences to Nancy's family and close friends. As my memories of Nancy pour into my mind, I can only think how she always made me smile. So analytical in her thoughts, so warm and loving to the people who had the pleasure of being called her friends. How I wish I had a time machine to bump into her in the halls of F.J. Or to revisit our famed 1992 Shakespeare sword fight in sergants classroom, which in modern days would have had us both arrested. RIP Nancy??.

I''m still in shock over the loss of my friend Nancy Gobatto, and wanted to share my condolences with her family. We were classmates and friends during our MA in Creative Writing program years, and I always felt lucky to have found her. In class critiques, I always flipped to her writing first to read her unique, honest and always funny pieces. She taught me so much about being true to myself, often seeing through my writing when I hardly knew what I was doing. She was also a remarkable friend, fiercely loyal, generous and protective, a cherished family member to her closest friends. She took chances, believed in people, and while she entertained us all, she would also listen for hours. I hadn''t been in touch as frequently as I wanted to in recent years. I ran into her on a train once and we talked for hours. I missed her. I always wanted to reconnect and hadn''t done it soon enough. I will regret this forever. And never forget the wonderful person she was, and everything I learned from her.

Firstly, I want to say how truly sorry for the heavy loss that you all have been dealt so unexpectedly. I study Social Work and WGST at the university and I had Nancy every semester since my first year. She was such a hilarious, witty, brilliant, talented, remarkably special individual. Everyone in my classes loved her and her laugh-out-loud anecdotes. I always looked forward to her classes because I could always walk away with some new grain of information or knowledge that could only be properly delivered by Nancy. I was so looking forward to having her this upcoming semester as well. I am so deeply saddened at her passing but know that she will forever live on in the memories of her loved ones, and in the very real wealth of knowledge and drive to create positive (feminist) change in the world that Nancy inspired in us all. I will always be grateful to have known such a wonderful and unique soul as her, and can only hope she is continuing her teachings and studies and passions wherever she is now. (Hopefully it involves a laptop with functional Wi-Fi and a full disc set of all the Buffy the Vampire seasons).

I am very sorry for your loss. Nancy was my first women studies teacher way back in 2010. I enjoyed her personality and her class. I at first chose her class just as a fill in for my first year; however, taking her class made me realize how much I loved the course and that I wanted to continue on in it. I ended up graduating with a minor and women studies and that would never of happened if I didn't take her class. She was An amazing woman. She was outgoing, friendly, understanding, and kind. She will always be a professor I will not forget. May she rest in peace.

Nancy was the breath of fresh air Women's Studies needed. I was so irate with how the program was being run that my aggression took over my passion for bringing awareness to social justice matters. Then I was introduced to Nancy in my last year of studies. I absolutely loved her teachings, perspectives, passion and her knowledge. She did not put up with disrespect and she expected excellence which included appropriate manners in class. She was the reason I graduated proudly with a degree in Women's Studies. Thank you for sharing her with us and for loving her. It was so evident that there was mutual love by the way she spoke of her family throughout course lectures. I am an acquaintance of her best friend Kim and she has brought so much joy to her and her family's life. Nancy left an impact wherever she went and she will continue to be missed. I cannot put into words how deeply sorry I am for her sudden and unexpected passing. Many will boast and say that 40 is too young. I agree, however, by the looks of it Nancy lived a full life. How lucky we were to have been blessed with her presence. When cardinals appear, angels are near. I wish you many encounters with cardinals. I offer my prayers for comfort during this difficult time.

Nancy taught me so much when I was in her Women''s Studies classes. I have never stopped looking critically at the way women and people of colour are portrayed in advertising. I have also never forgotten her frank discussion of the way universities treat adjunct faculty. She was a brilliant person and I am so sorry for her family''s loss.
