Obituary of Irja Ida Saastamoinen

SAASTAMOINEN (SAASTO), Irja Ida (nee Hiltunen) Into the arms of her loving Lord and Saviour, Irja Passed away peacefully, with her son and grandson by her side on May 29, 2016 at the age of 97. Reunited with her beloved husband Reino (1994). Loving mother to Raymond (2003), John, Peter and wife Joyce. Proud grandmother to Jody Higgins (Steve), Sonya Roe (Jim), Christine Saasto, Peter "Dana" Saastamoinen (Hillary), and Jennifer Saasto-St. Louis (Thomas). Cherished great grandmother to Brian and Rochelle Higgins; Carson, Chase and Cole Roe; Kayla, Kassandra and Devin St. Louis; Hannah, Audrey and Kristen Saastamoinen. She will be dearly missed by nieces, nephews and extended family in Thunder Bay, also many friends in Finland, Canada and Florida. Irja will be remembered for the love of her family, her hard work and determination, as well as her dedication to her Pentecostal and Finnish roots. The family would like to thank all of the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Royal Marquis, Aspen Lake and Windsor Regional Hospital-Metropolitan Campus for all of the care and compassion shown to Irja during her final years. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Central Location) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E on Wednesday June 1, 2016 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Visitation will continue at Parkwood Gospel Temple (3005 Temple Dr.) on Thursday June 2, 2016 from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
