Obituary of Helen Lucy Lamping-Finlay
LAMPING " FINLAY, Helen L. (nee Stanich) Helen passed away peacefully Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Metropolitan Hospital in Windsor. Helen was born in Safford Arizona and moved to Canada when she was 19. A lifelong resident of St. Catharines, Helen moved to Windsor in June 2014 to marry Paul Finlay and enjoy retirement. Helen was a smart, vibrant, outgoing woman who loved to travel, have fun and would try almost anything when traveling, be it tubing, zip lining with her granddaughter, driving in Europe, riding a camel in Jordan in the desert, or trying out a new patisserie in Paris. She loved her yoga and when younger ran middle distance races and a marathon in the Niagara Region. Her latest passion was Broadway musicals and attended Broadway shows in New York, Toronto and was a season ticket holder to Broadway in Detroit. Helen was well educated holding a Degree from Brock University and a Diploma from Mohawk College. In her professional career, she retired from the Halton District School Board as a Disability Management Coordinator. Previously, she worked in the St. Catharines area in varying capacities as a Vocation Counselor, a Case Manager and Career Development Specialist. Helen was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #17 in Thorold and more recently a member of RCL # 594 in Windsor. Helen was also a long time member of many professional organizations, including Canadian Disability Management Professional Association; Vocational Rehabilitation Association; Vocational Rehabilitation Association and Organization of School Board Officials (OASBO). Quite simply, Helen will be missed greatly by her family and friends. She could light up a room with her personality and purple bangs. She was an accomplished cook and never minded sharing her ideas or opinions with others. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren who loved her greatly as she did them. Helen is survived by her husband Paul Finlay, her step-daughters Michelle Hendriks and husband Tony; Kara Finlay and Matthew Martinuzzi and step son Dean Finlay. She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren, Madison, Connor and Payton Hendriks. Helen is also survived by brothers Michael and Stan Stanich. Helen was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Lucy Stanich. She was also predeceased by her husband"s Hughie Lamping and Brian Fristch. A memorial visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. East on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 2"5pm and 7"9 pm. Prayers will be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday evening. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Emmanuel United Church, 1728 Lincoln Rd. Windsor Ontario at 11:00 am with the Rev. Sadekie Lyttle-Forbes leading the service. Charitable donations in Helen's memory may be made to Emmanuel United Church.
