Obituary of Daniel Joseph Jr. Goniea

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Big Dan on Friday, December 5, 2014. Born in Detroit Michigan on February 10, 1923, he was the youngest child of Daniel Sr. and Adah Goniea. Dear brother of Grace Thrasher, Ralph Goniea, Arthur Goniea and Jessie Salliotte. Former husband of Jeanne (Goniea) Reid and cherished father of Jeanne Godfrey. Proud "Pooh Grandpa" to Abby, Aron and Brent Godfrey. Big Dan loved spontaneity and family, pinochle and cribbage, Dixieland and the Big Bands, big dreams and bigger cars " he would drive anyone, anywhere, any time. He loved butter tarts and fig newtons, porterhouse steak and Erie perch, buttered popcorn and cream pies, college football and horse racing " he was known to wager on anything, anywhere, any time. From Detroit to the beaches of Normandy on D-Day to Point Pelee to Windsor, Dan enjoyed good conversations, clever jokes, and laughing out loud. He will be missed! A special thanks to Mark and Joe (Com Care) who cared for Dad with respect and kindness; to the CCAC, the VON, the CNIB, and the Veterans" Affairs organizations who helped support his independence with diligence and compassion. Arrangements have been entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Banwell Chapel) 519-253-7234. At Daniel"s request, cremation has taken place. In Dan"s memory donations may be made to Meals on Wheels with Dan"s final request that they serve one day next week ANY vegetable other than carrots! (Envelopes are available at the Funeral Home).
