Obituary of John Fred Tomko

TOMKO, John Fred Passed away peacefully on his late son, Michael's, Birthday on July 29, 2014 at W.R.H. Ouellette Campus at the age of 89 years. Beloved husband of Alice (nee Landry) with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage. Loving father to Michael (2011), Nancy Tomko and John Barnes, Brian Tomko and Shelley Briden, Lisa Tomko and Bill Labadie. Cherished grandfather to Ben and Micheal, and great- grandfather to Meila, Lucas and Ruby. John retired from the City of Windsor Public Works Dept. after 28 years of dedicated service. He served in the Canadian Army with the Essex Scottish Regiment during WWII. John was a man that was strongly devoted to his faith and his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop John T. Kidd Council #4924. John loved his animals, volunteered as an usher at St. Vincent de Paul Church and assisted the needy by providing them with food. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E on Friday, August 1st, 2014 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers at 3 pm. and a Veterans Service under the auspices of the Windsor Veterans Memorial Services Committee will take place at 7:30 pm. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, August 2nd, 2014 at Our Lady of the Atonement Church (2940 Forest Glade Dr.) for visitation from 9:30 am until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Windsor-Essex Humane Society.
