Obituary of Robert Alan Cooper

COOPER, Robert " Bob " Alan Bob died in his 87th year at dawn on a beautiful April day, having recently returned from five months at his home in Florida. Survived by his wife of 30 years , Virginia ( nee Kidd ) also predeceased by wife Marilyn ( nee Sproule ). Loving dad to Shauna & Michael Zafer, David & Jeanne Cooper, Michael Cooper & Sarah Mershback , Mary Catherine Gates and Jon & Joyce Gates. Cherished grandpa to Lauren, Erin, Matt, Rob, Andrew, Katie, Lexie, Joel, Eric, Caitlyn and Madilyn.He will be fondly remembered by his sister in law Ruth White and family and Bill & Audrey Sproule and family. Bob was the only child of Thomas B. and Gladys Cooper of Toronto. He graduated in 1947 from the Univeristy of Toronto where he was a member of the Varsity Blues Hockey Team. After graduation, he became the playing coach of the Cobourg Galloping Ghosts " Hold that line ". Bob moved to Windsor in 1951 when he purchased the Fleming House ( now known as Charly's Brew Pub ). He also owned the Bushholme Inn in Erin and the Wellington Hotel in Barrie. He was a past president of Windsor Hotel Assocation and past director of the Ontario Hotel and Motel Association. Bob was an avid golfer and past president of Beach Grove Golf and Country Club, and also a member of the Isla del Sol Yacht and Country Club , St. Petersburg , FL. He was a world wide traveller and his favourite trips were those that he made to watch his boys play baseball all over Canada. When at home he spent many hours at Lacasse and Mic Mac Parks watching them play. Visitation WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Banwell Chapel) 519-253-7234 11677 Tecumseh Rd. Visitation will continue on Saturday April 7th, 2012 at St. Mark's by the Lake Church ( 150 St Mark's - St Clair Beach ) from 2:00 PM until time of Bob's funeral mass at 3:00 PM.
