Obituary of Anne Hercia

HERCIA, Anne ( nee Starchweski) May 11,1914 - December 28, 2010 , at the beautiful age of 96. Anne resided at the Leamington Mennonite Long Term Facility where she received exemplary care for the last 5 and a half years. Anne was the eldest daughter of Maria and Matthew who immigrated from Ukraine to start their new life and family in Canada. Predeceased by husbands Peter Hercia and William Clancy, parents Maria and Matthew, brothers Paul & the Honourable Michael Starr, and sisters Stella and Mary. She is survived by her sister Pearl Damoff of Whitby. Anne was a very loving and proud mother of Dr. Robert Hercia ( deceased ) survived by his wife Brenda , Mrs. Marianne Zakarow ( Dr . Peter ), Mrs. Patricia Mayville ( Michael ), Mrs. Sharon Rossi ( Paul ) and Mrs. Joanna Pesusich ( Simon ). Loving grandmother " Baba" to Dianne Henning, Dr. Pamela Zakarow, Dr. Sandra Zakarow, Peter A. Zakarow, Joel Mayville, Christian Mayville, Kathryn Mayville, Robin Hercia ( Kimberly and Holly Hercia deceased ), Dr. Amanda Rossi, Ghia Rossi, Adrianna Anderson, Alexander Pesusich and Janine Pesusich. Cherished great grandmother of Meghan, Ted, Matt & Emma, Sienna & Sean and Luke. Anne was very proud of her Ukrainian Heritage. She was a longstanding member of the Ukrainian Business and Professional Association, Founding Member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and a Member of the Sts. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Choir. Anne was the owner of the Sandwich Platter Restaurant in Amherstburg, where many enjoyed her home cooked meals over the years. The family wishes to thank Linda Tiessen and the staff at the Leamington Mennonite Long Term Home for their compassion and loving care, Rt. Rev Fr Eugene Halitsky for his many visits and prayers, the friends at the Leamington United Mennonite Church for all the social events that Anne participated in over the years. To Fr. Patrick Beneteau for anointing our mother and the Eucharistic Ministers at St. Michael's Church - Leamington. Visitation at the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home ( Banwell Chapel ) 11677 Tecumseh Rd East ( corner of Banwell and Tecumseh Rd E.) on Friday December 31, 2010 from 1:00 PM until time of Panakhyda ( prayers ) at 4:00 PM. Officiated by Rt. Rev . Fr Eugene Halitsky. A private family burial will be held in Oshawa at a later date. In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to the Building Fund at Sts.
