Obituary of William John Sheldon
William John Sheldon “Uncle Bill”
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Sheldon, peacefully at home surrounded by family. After a courageous 3.5 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer, Uncle Bill is now at peace with the love of his life “Auntie Di.” Reunited with parents Gord & Elizabeth. Beloved brother to the late Dick (Betty) Sheldon, Bob (late Lynn) Sheldon and Janet (Kenny) Greenwood. Brother-in-law to the late Gary (Kathy) Langley and sister-in-law Marian Langley. Proud uncle to Colleen (David), Christine, John, Leigh Anne (Marc), Jim (Sarah), Jennifer (Mel), Lisa (Marcus), Jason (Sara), Christine (late Dr. L Luciani), Matthew (Jodi), Michael (Kristen) and Lauren (John). Great uncle to 20 great nieces and nephews.
Bill was a Certified General Accountant for the Canadian Federal Government in Toronto for over 35 years. He was a past president of Summit Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed many an afternoon before retiring to Windsor to be closer to his family. When he and Diane moved back home he joined Pointe West Golf Club, where he was known as an avid golfer and gentle soul. No matter who he played with, he was sure to put a smile on their face. He always enjoyed a teachable moment on the golf course and any opportunity to discuss all things golf. His friendly, good-humoured nature will surely be missed by everyone who knew him.
In 2016, he started his uphill battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Through it all, he never complained. Even while stuck in the hospital, nurses complimented his positive attitude and resolve in the face of a challenge. Ten thousand steps a day was his goal- inside or outside. He always made sure to stay in golfing shape, shooting his age multiple times in his last rounds. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kanjeekal of the Windsor Regional Cancer Program, Dr. Freeman at Windsor Regional Hospital Palliative Care, and Saint Elizabeth Nurse Mitzell, who made sure Bill was comfortable in his final days. Also, the late Dr. Lee Luciani, Bill’s nephew and the man who made sure Bill was always taken care of. We are sure he was with Bill to the end.
A private family ceremony has taken place. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel (Banwell) 11677 Tecumseh Rd E 519-253-7234. Online condolences may be shared at www.windsorchapel.com. Donations can be made in his name to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation.
