Obituary of Bernard Leo Monforton

MONFORTON, Bernard "Bernie" 87 Years. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Bernie on July 21, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 64 years to Leona (nee Pollock). Loving and devoted father to Carol and husband Terri Burney, Maureen and husband Don Gordon, and Doug Monforton and wife Nancy; all of Windsor. Cherished "Papa" to Carey (Cassie), Ryan (Mary) and Craig (Jackie) Burney, Christie (John) Downes, Jeff Gordon (Hannah Coleman), Heather (Alan) Soltis, and Scott, and Matthew Monforton. "Big Papa" to 10 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by many brothers and sisters. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bernie was a WWII Veteran serving with the Canadian Naval Forces, member of Riverside K of C, Bishop John T. Kidd Council # 4924, former member of R.C.L. Branch # 594 and an usher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. A retired London Life insurance agent, Bernie enjoyed over 28 years of retirement with his beautiful wife Leona. Bernie will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, papa, big papa and friend. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (BANWELL CHAPEL) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. East on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. A Veterans Service under the Auspices of the Windsor Veterans Memorial Service Committee will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. Parish prayers Sunday at 8 p.m. Family and friends will be received on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (834 Raymo Rd. at Wyandotte St. East) for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus I.C.U would be appreciated by the family.
