Obituary of Lydia Segodnia

SEGODNIA, Lydia (n"e Krigel) Passed away on 22 December 2012. Born in 1928 in western Ukraine, Lydia earned a degree in pharmacy from the Technical University of Munich. Together with her beloved sister Josie (deceased 2008), Lydia emigrated to Canada in 1948. Settling in Windsor with her parents and younger brother, she met and married Ted, her husband of 49 years (deceased 2002). While having two young children of their own, Lydia and Ted informally adopted Ted"s two young brothers (Jack and Don) following the deaths of their parents in 1958. With her ever present strength and dry wit, Lydia steadfastly supported her husband and family through moves to Toronto, Ottawa, Regina, Halifax and finally Vancouver, where they lived for over 25 years. Lydia returned to Windsor in 2003. Lydia is survived by her beloved brother Ted, daughter Judith, brothers-in-law Jack and Don, grandchildren Justin, Brett and Claire, and many saddened relatives and friends. Lydia was devoted to her family, including loved ones still residing in Ukraine. She never forgot her roots and the generosity of "Pani Lida" was experienced by many. Lydia had an open and generous heart. She was loved and will be missed. A special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Riverside Place, whose hard work and big hearts provided Lydia with comfort in her final months. A service of Ukrainian Catholic liturgy and interment will take place at a date to be determined after the New Year. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME.
