Obituary of Steve Kokotec

KOKOTEC, Steve Born October 22, 1923 in Brodarovec, Kod Varizdin, Hrvatsko Zagorje to Josipa and Mirko Kokotec. Passed away in the loving arms of his wife Mary on June 19, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of 56 years to Mary (nee Pavlakovic). Loving father to Willie Kokotec and wife Vikki; the late Steven Kokotec (January 9, 2011); and Barbara Kokotec. Cherished grandfather (Dida) to Emmy. Dear son in-law to the late Ana and Ivan Pavlakovic. Also predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers in Croatia. He leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews in Canada, Croatia and U.S.A. Steve retired from Chrysler after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Church, Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #638, The Croatian Centre and C.A.W. Local 444. Steve emigrated from Croatia and was very proud of his Croatian heritage. His determination, dedication and hard work would provide him the privilege and honour of being one of the founding member of the first Croatian Church to be established not only in Windsor but, in all of Canada. On August 20th, 1950, St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Church, with its founding father, Fr. Lujo Ivandic was opened to the Croatian community at the corner of Seminole St. and Albert Rd. Visitation at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers Friday at 8:00 pm. Funeral service on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home then to St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church Building Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
