Obituary of Joseph Matthew Schulde

Dr. Joseph M. Schulde, MD, FRCSC November 3, 1921- June 1, 2012 Dr. Schulde was a man who wore many hats in his long career as a surgeon. He loved his family, enjoyed his friends, cared deeply for his patients, respected his medical and healthcare colleagues and was dedicated to ensuring that his home town of Windsor/Essex had the best medical care possible. He was an old-fashioned "doc" who would visit you at home as well as at your hospital bed. Beloved husband of the late Eileen Schulde (Jan 27, 2012). Dr Schulde is survived by his children Deborah (and John Ciccone) and Joseph (and Sonya Schulde); his grandchildren -Channing, Nicholas and Stefan Schulde. his sister, Ann Schnekenburger and children, his extended family Shirley and Lee Markham and children. Dr. Schulde, obtained his medical degree in general surgery from the University of Western doing post grad in London, England. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. During WWII he was a medical officer in the RC Medical Corps. At Windsor Regional Hospital, Windsor he was former: Chief of Surgery; Chief of Staff; Surgeon - Burn Unit; President of General Medical Staff; Member of the Board as well as Medical Advisor and teacher at the former School of Nursing. As well as being an Ontario Coroner for 32 years he ran a private office practice for 40 years. He is former president of: Essex County Medical Society; Windsor Academy of Surgeons, AKO Fraternity Also Medical Director for General Motors Canada - Windsor (26 yrs) He sat on many Boards from Goodwill to the Canadian Cancer Society to Brentwood.. Member of every medical association in Canada. Proud to have received the OMA Glen Sawyer Award (1988) and the Queens Jubilee Medal in 1977 for outstanding service to Her Majesty"s people. He retired in 1992. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 519-253-7234 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Thursday June 7, 2012 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service on Friday June 8, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel. Interment at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
