Obituary of Gerald Anthony Sheff
GERALD ANTHONY SHEFF (September 20, 1932 " April 17, 2011) Gerald Sheff died peacefully at Windsor Regional Hospital in Windsor, Ontario after a short illness. Sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Murielle (Chaput) Sheff, as well as by his children Frank (Cecile) Sheff, David (Donna) Sheff, Deborah (LeRoy) Pursel, Henry (late Sherry) Sheff, and Michael (Roseline) Sheff. Also missed by his brother John (Helen) Sheff, sisters-in-law Helen Burton and Alice Calibaba, special Valentine Yvette Parent, and best friend Francois Parent. He had thirteen grandchildren: Camille, Jessica, Alicia, Victoria, David, Sam, Joey, Sarah, Isaac, Brian, Ren"e, Kaitlyn, and Aria. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Eva (Bushey) Sheff, his siblings, Gladys, William, Beatrice, Frank, Andrew, Norman, and Mary Helen. Gerald " or Jerry to those who loved him " was born in Wallaceburg, Ontario. He joined the Canadian army when he was seventeen years of age, and was promptly posted to Germany. He was injured in a road accident in 1953, and he returned to Canada to recover. During that time, Gerald"s sister set him up on a blind date for his brother Norm"s wedding. On June 19, 1954, he met the love of his life, Murielle Chaput. They married July 9, 1955 in Windsor. His career in the military spanned twenty-five years: he was posted to Soest, Germany, London, Borden and Kingston. Upon his retirement from the army in 1975, Gerald and his family moved to Windsor and worked at Kelsey Hayes. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 11090 and was an usher at Immaculate Heart Church. He spent his retirement enjoying family and friends to the fullest. Gerald loved cards, cribbage, good company, and the Montreal Canadiens. He was a gentleman and the world will be much quieter without the sound of his laughter. I hope they serve great pie in heaven, Grandpa. Visitation at WINDOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Main Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd E. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers and Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home then to Immaculate Heart Church for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
