Obituary of Saverio Galli

GALLI, Saverio Passed away peacefully at home February 28, 2011 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of 60 years of Mary. Loving father of Rick and wife Gail, John, Tom and wife Debbie, and Angela and husband David. Dear grandfather of Aaron and Julia Galli. Loving brother of Nella Savoni and the late Gina Bell (2009) and kind uncle to many nieces and nephews. Saverio was born in Ceccano, Italy in 1921 and emigrated to Windsor with his parents in 1935. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces in WWII with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada. Saverio was a member of the Giovanni Caboto Club for over 70 years. After the war, he studied art at the Meinzinger Art School in Detroit, Michigan and later taught art at Willistead Manor, several area high schools and in Leamington, where he taught a dedicated group of companions every second Tuesday for the next 50 years. He started a commercial painting and decorating company and continued to practice his art throughout his life. Many of his works can be found throughout Windsor and elsewhere in public spaces and private homes; some of his major public works are in the Giovanni Caboto Club and St. Angela Merici Church. Saverio was a recipient of the commemorative medal for the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in 1992 and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for his service to the community.
