Obituary of James Clarkson Carmichael

CARMICHAEL, JAMES Passed away peacefully , at the age of 84 years, on August 28, 2010 at Extendicare Southwood Lakes. Beloved husband of 61 years to Carolyn (nee King). Cherished father of Rod Carmichael and wife Margaret Sorensen of Victoria B.C., Ann Carmichael and friend David Mills of Victoria, B.C., Glen Carmichael and wife Kim of Superior, CO., Beth Whitlock and husband Greg of London, and Alison Steer and husband Michael of Windsor. Loving Gramps of Eric, Kate, Judd, Molly, Conner, Spencer and Owen. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Mabel Carmichael, as well as sisters Jean Scully and her husband Edward; and Florence Mingay and her husband Arthur. Dear brother-in-law of William and wife Vida King,and Robert King and his late wife Carol. Dear uncle of Barbara Jean Voorheis and Michael Scully. Mr. Carmichael was a longtime and devoted member of Paulin Memorial Presbyterian Church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was a Life Member of the Kiwanis Club and a past member of the Kiwanis Golden K. Jim was a retired Funeral Director, serving the families of our community and elsewhere for 61 years, joining the family at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home in 1971. His degree of compassion and knowledge will carry on with his associates, and he will be dearly missed by those he had the pleasure to serve. Visiting at the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (MAIN CHAPEL), 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. on Tuesday, August 31 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Veteran's service under the auspices of the Windsor Veterans Memorial Services Committee will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends will be received for visitation on Wednesday September 1, 2010 at Paulin Memorial Presbyterian Church (3200 Woodland Avenue at Norfolk) from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m, Rev. Wendy Paterson officiating. A private family interment will take place at St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Paulin Memorial Presbyterian Church "Reach for the Heights" Fund.
